Box 279 Shelton,WA 98584 1854 ----------------- February 13, 2008 Martha Hillius P.O. Box 1740 Belfair, WA 98528 RE: Permit Fee Refunds Dear Ms. Hillius: Per our phone conversation on this date, I am processing a refund of permit fees that you paid in conjunction with the permit for the bridge repair on your property at NE 1543 Old Belfair Hwy. The fees you have paid to date include $90.51 (Plan Check Fee), $190.00 (Planning Review Fee) and $240.00 (Shoreline Exemption Permit) for a total of $520.51. I am processing a refund for this amount. The building permit is currently being processed. You did indicate that your engineer of record would be performing the inspections on the bridge construction. He will need to provide our office with results of his inspections. While we can accept the engineer inspections in lieu of County inspectors in this case, the County will need to perform a final inspection once all construction is completed. The cost for the final inspection and the State Surcharge, which is required for all permits, totals $72.50. This remaining fee amount will need to be paid upon issuance of the building permit for the bridge repair. The staff at the Mason County Permit Center will notify you as soon as all reviews of the permit are completed and the permit ready for issuance. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone at 360-427- 9670, Ext. 603. Sincerely, n Barbara Robinson Community Development Director CC: Commissioner Tim Sheidon RECEIVED January 24,2008 FJAN'2 4 2008 BELFAIR OFFICE To: North Mason County Commissioner Department Head for Permits This letter will address the concerns we have and is written under advise of Attorney and former Dept.Head for Planning and Development of a very large COUNTY. We feel we are being victimized again after the storm we now know we have suffered damages upwards of$15,000.00 and will be forced to sell our property and home once this repair is completed. In the midst of getting estimates and seeing about repair to our bridge, we received a certified letter from Mason County telling us to hire a Structural Eng.And ask him to see what damages we had suffered and to fill out papers for fisheries and county for permits, which we did do. When turning in the set of paperwork for the county(which cost us plenty) we again were VICTIMIZED by the County charging us $540.00-thereby costing us upwards of$2000.00 which we should be spending on RESTORING AND REPAIRING OUR PROPERTY as requested by MASON COUNTY! Needless to say everyone we have discussed this with is APPAULED! WE are contacting the North Mason County Commissioner and asking that the borrowed money we have paid for the permit be returned to us and to tell this person that in talking to six different people at the county we have received six different answers to out questions! Somehow this seems very in appropriate when one is dealing WITH A DISASTER! We are also asking for a review of the treatment by the county to us as long time tax payers and citizens of this county. Especially when our Structural Eng. went to the county offices and asked if he had all the appropriate forms and he was told YES by several Mason County Employees and then when turning this paperwork in, I was asked to fill out more paperwork which HAD NOT ONE RELEVENT QUESTION in the whole 30 or so pages I had to go through. f All of this has forced me to write this letter and get some answers to our questions and try to come up with the funding for our MESS! Sincerely, Martha V. Hillius P.O. Box 1740 Belfair, Wa 98528 360 275 3624 Physical address: NE 1543 Old Belfair Highway.
