Dear Mr. &Mrs. Huson,
On March 11, 2009, I inspected the above-referenced property regarding a complaint that
was received by the Mason.County Department of Community Development. The,,.-..
complaint referenced bank armoring of the Union River.
Most development activities undertaken within the regulated buffer area associated with
saltwater and freshwater shorelines (including the river in question) require prior permit
approval (see Mason County Resource Ordinance 17.01.110 and Shoreline Master .
Program Chapter 17.50.060). In this case, the placement of boulders/rip rap along the .
riverbank constitutes a permit-required activity. The permit requirements are detailed
below:
Under the Mason County Resource Ordinance chapter 17.01.110, section (G)(1)(e), a
Mason Environmental Permit must be submitted for projects involving bank stabilization,
and a Hydraulic Project Approval through Dept. of Fish and Wildlife may be required.
To keel) the rock armoring, you will need to submit the following:
• Mason Environmental Permit with after-the-fact fees $630.00 x 3 = $1890.00
• Habitat Management Plan Review =$445.00 fee
• Planning Violation Fine=$255.00
