The,,.-.. complaint referenced bank armoring of the Union River. Most development activities undertaken within the regulated buffer area associated with saltwater and freshwater shorelines (including the river in question) require prior permit approval (see Mason County Resource Ordinance 17.01.110 and Shoreline Master . Program Chapter 17.50.060). In this case, the placement of boulders/rip rap along the . riverbank constitutes a permit-required activity. The permit requirements are detailed below: Under the Mason County Resource Ordinance chapter 17.01.110, section (G)(1)(e), a Mason Environmental Permit must be submitted for projects involving bank stabilization, and a Hydraulic Project Approval through Dept. of Fish and Wildlife may be required.
