Campbell Phone: 570-6750 MAIL stop: 47447 Subject: DMC001 SR 3 Allyn Vicinity Slide Repair MP 22.51 To MP 22.73 Wall Site Data To: Ray Shaefer/Gary Battin, 47340 �n December 1998, a slide occurred on State Route SR 3 in the vicinity of MP 22.50. Since December this section of SR 3 has been closed to through traffic. A detour is currently in place which routes traffic around the slide via North Bay Road and Victor Cutoff Road (see attached Vicinity Map). The area of SR 3 which has slid was constructed in 1994 under Contract No. 4315, titled `Allyn Vicinity Curves'. Attached is wall site data, being provided by the Tumwater Project Engineer's Office located in the Olympic Region for assisting you in a repair design for the slide. We are proposing to construct the SR 3 roadway to the same roadway widths, vertical profile and horizontal profile as existed prior to the slide, which was constructed in 1994 under Contract No. 4315. The attached bridge site data consists of form 235-002 (Bridge Site Data General), six plan sheets i.e., a vicinity map, a plan view of the area with contours, a superelevation diagram and profile of SR 3, a roadway section of SR 3 through the wall limits and two sheets showing the wall profiles. We are also providing cross sections every 10 meters through the proposed solider pile wall limits and will provide electronic CADD files. Previously we supplied your office with copies of the February 24, 1999 OSC Geotechnical Services Branch Soils Report for the project. The attached Figure 5 needs to replace the Figure 5 in the earlier report. For traffic and pedestrian protection, we are proposing to lace re-cast Type 2 Concrete Barrier, P P P P a P P YP offset 0.6 meters to the right from the edge of the paved shoulder, and a pedestrian fence between the barrier and the back of wall. r Ray Shaefer/Gary Battin Page 2 March 24, 1999 Re: DMC001 Drainage of the hillside on the west side of the roadway will be trapped via ditches, cut off trenches and drainage structure and conveyed to the eastside by means of a tight line system that will in some locations extend through the wall. Please provide a typical blockout detail for extending outflow pipes (300mm to 450mm dia.) through the wall lagging. Please provide us with all bridge design information i.e., plans, specifications, estimates, for incorporation into PS&E by April 23, 1999. Date: 03/24/99 Pages including this cover page: 2 Comments: Here's a draft of the proposed deep cutoff trench;final details need to go through review, but I suspect sometime late today we'lI have a final for you. The trench would be located near the back of the existing ditch between Stations 22+070 to 22+140, We may have a clearance problem with the tie-backs on the south end. We are assuming a tie-back angle of 20°,but Bridge will need to see what works best. It may involve lessening the trench depth to 3 meters or so on this end or moving it upslope ss far as practical. It would still be desirable to tightline the spring as best as is feasible. The 5isting cross culvert is 0.46m(18")diameter. Since we're hoping to pick up addVound water as well through some cross culvert,it may be worth looking at upping the size to 0.61m(24")diameter.
