Dear Mr. Borden:
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the mitigated determination of nonsignificance for the
placement of quarry rock along a 100 foot length of bankline to a height of 6 feet, bury four logs and maple
rootwad in the rock and orient them upstream to deflect flows to the center of the Union River, backfill
pitrun material behind the quarry rock and revegetate(Case No. SEP97-0111), located at Northeast 2700
Old Belfair Highway in Belfair as proposed by Victor Seamans. We reviewed the environmental checklist
and have the following comments:
Any work in or adjacent to waterways that will adversely affect water quality must receive specific prior
authorization from the Department of Ecology pursuant to WAC 173-201A-110. A short-term water
quality standards modification may be issued if the proponent agrees to a number of specific construction
practices and techniques designed to minimize water quality impacts. The construction schedule will be
tied to the schedule on the Hydraulic Project Approval (HPA).
Any land use within critical areas and buffers should be protective of water quality. For information about
Best Management Practices, contact the Mason Conservation District at(360)427-9436.
If you have any questions, please call Ms. Jeannette Barreca with Ecology's Water Quality Program at
(360) 407-6556.
Sincerely,
