Subject: Wetland Restoration Plan Monitoring Results for Ernesto Iuliano.
Dear Ms. French:
I visited Mr. Iuliano's site last fall (2003)but very little plant regeneration had begun as the plants
were severely pruned back (to ground level) that spring. I visited the site again late spring of this
year(2004)with the understanding that the pruned vegetation would have one full year to respond to
growing conditions. As expected, all pruned plants have grown back vigorously throughout the
revegetation area. Please see attached photos for details.
There is a narrow walkway being maintained along the driveway for access to the beach and
removal of Himalayan blackberry as outlined in the Restoration Plan. There was no evidence of
driveway activity by motor vehicles or additional pruning.
Based on my observation, I see no need for further amendments to the Restoration Plan at this time.

Monitoring Plan
Under Ordinance 17.01.200 I1 a(4)it is stated that a restoration plan shall include at a minimum the
following: (4) "A monitoring plan to evaluate periodically the success of the restoration and provide
for amendments to the plan which may become necessary to achieve its purpose."
Our long-term restoration strategy is to allow the pruned wetland shrubs to regenerate naturally,to
revegetate the driveway to emulate the natural condition of the surrounding area, and to prevent
further degradation of the wetland's condition by removing the invasive, exotic species that are now
present on the property.
After the Wetland Restoration Plan has been fully implemented,the project ecologist will visit and
inspect the site during the summer and fall of 2003 to check on plant condition and mortality.
General maintenance of the site will be conducted by the landowner which may include: weeding
around all new plantings until they become well established; removal of encroaching, invasive
exotic species from the neighboring forest fragment into the restored area, namely Himalayan
blackberry.
Following inspection and evaluation of the restored area by the lead ecologist in the summer and fall
of 2003, a determination will be made addressing amendments to the Plan which may become
necessary to achieve the purpose and goals of the Restoration Plan.
