Project 6.1193 Selby Design plan Ames Residence Tal' 2x6, Stud Wall To Whoo i It May Coilc efn: I have provided the lateral and gravity load engineering for the Selby Design plan Ames Res,idenre for Brian Ames. Per the bJildPr the wall separating the two garages will be about 22'-2"tall and is non bearing. Attached are calculations for the loading of the garage to 2x6 studs 22'-2" tall at 16" on cer-te, snowing that they are adequate for the axial loading. 2x6 22'--2' tall garage studs are acceptable for interior non bearing walls not exposed L: winr7 or floor or roof loads. See attached plan view of the area in question and calculations for 2x6 22'-2" tall studs a! 16" on center. The wall may be constructed having a 2x4 pony wall over as shown in the builder provided detaii attached. Please contact me with any questions regarding this project. He informed me that he had turned in a revised set of plans that was not in my possession. I located the plans and returned a call to him indicating this. I also left message that I would keep the plan on hold until I had information about the planning requirements for size of the ADU. Currently there is over 1600 sq ft in the proposed area on 2 separate floors.MAL 11/01/2007 also indicated to him during this conversation that we would still need the details for the firewall from the designer to make it continuous from floor to roof sheeting and wall to wall. BLDA910 Meeting 11/21/2007 None DONE MAL 11/30/2007 MAL Met with Mrs.Brian Ames to discuss the firewall requirements for the separation of the Ag building from the proposed residential area of this structure. A general indication of a one hour wall was made on a plan submitted for revision. I had previously told Mr.Ames that we would need the wall design and corresponding details for continuity of that assembly. When Mrs.Ames was in we spoke at length so that she could understand exactly why this separation was required and what type of details that we would need. She took notes and was given copies of numerous code sections. She thanked me for the explanations and said"now I understand what is being asked for." She said that she would go back to the designer to try to get that information for submittal. She was unable to locate details that would provide continuity through the floor system(engineered I joists penetrating through the area requiring separation). I informed her that I had no such details that I could provide or had I seen any tested assemblies. After much discussion she decided that it would be far easier to separate the"U"occupancies with a firewall and provide the modified separation allowed between the private garage(adjusted to<3000 sq ft)and the residential portion. After our call I realized that during our discussion I was quoting the 2006 code regarding the 2hr requirement between the U occ's. I phoned back and left message on her machine that per the code for this plan(2003)the requirement was only I hour. I also mentioned some ideas for the creation of the sep.at the private garage/res.wall that would need to include 5/8 rock on horiz.members in the assembly and 1/2 on any supporting walls. MAL 11/29/20071 also suggested during this conversation that an architect or engineer that did commercial work may be able to provide some details for these assemblies. BLDA900 Telephone Call 11/29/2007 None DONE MAL 11/30/2007 MAL Met with Barb Robinson to review the status of the Ames project. Following the meeting I called the designer(Tammy Selby)to discuss the details needed for the fire separation that is required for this project. She said that she had met with Mrs.Ames following the meeting that took place at Mason County permit center on 11/21/2007. I spoke with her about the area in question and mentioned that there was engineering involved with the wall and that the engineer of record should be consulted about the changes and or additions that may need to be done to this wall. I also said that any changes would need to be approved by the engineer anyway so she may want to consult with them about the fire wall details also. Tammy Selby said that she would do that. I am awaiting details for the fire separation from the designer and/or engineer to complete the building revision review.
