RE: Archambeau 550 East Harding Hill, Allyn, WA
Dear Mason County Building and Planning Department:
Mr. & Mrs. Archambeau previously received instruction that the Deck on their home is not
satisfactory to the County. We have employed an expert to examine the deck and consider your
concerns and he has provided us with the attached written opinion.
The things you wish the Archambeau family to do in association with this deck would be very
costly to them. It is our hope that you will review this written report and consider the issue of whether or
not the expert is correct so that they Archambeau family can enjoy their deck.
Be advised that the Archambeau family are in fact respectful of your laws and determinations
but that what you are asking of them is in their opinion a rather significant financial burden in light of
what this expert has to say.
I look forward to hearing from you and toward resolution of this matter.

NON TREATED DECK MATERIAL
I HAVE BEEN IN THE DESIGN,ENGINEERING&CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS SINCE 1962 8z HAVE
BEEN IN BUSINESS AS"BALL DRAFTING SERVICE"SINCE 1992.
IN REGARDS TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE MANUFACTURED HOME AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS,I
LOOKED AT IT SOME MONTHS AGO AND TALKED TO BRIAN CALLAGAN P.E. AND DETERMINED
THE DECK WAS 13ELOW 30" FROM THE GROUND AND STRUCTURALLY SOUND AS CONSTRUCTED.
IT 1S CONSTRUCTED OF CONCRETE PILLAR BLOCKS WITH 4"x4"TREATED POSTS @ 8' O.C.AND
4"x6"TREATED SUPPORT BEAMS @ 8'O.C, THE DECKING IS 2"x4"NONE TREATED DECKING ON
EDGE SPACED AT 1/8"+/-APART.
AGAIN ON 5/21/08 1 AGAIN TALKED TO BRIAN CALLAGAN RE. WHO RECALLED A CONVERSATION
WITH THE BUILDING INSPECTOR ON THIS MATTER,
SEE ENCLOSED REPORT FROM BRIAN CALLAGAN P.E.
YES THE DECKING MATERIAL WILL PROBABLY LAST 10 YEARS OR SO BUT THAT IS NOT THE
ISSUE. THE IRC 319&320 CALLS FOR"DECAY RESISTANT WOODS" FORMOST IN THE ENTRANCE
&EGRESS OF THE HOME. SEE THE MASON COUNTY HAND OUT INCLUDING IRC 319 ENCLOSED.
MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO PROPOSE A 5' W.IDE STRIP OF COMPLYING MATERIALS AT THE
ENTRANCE TO THE MANUFACTURED HOME, 18"TO THE LATCH SIDE OF THE DOOR&6"TO THE
HINGE SIDE AND LEAVE THE REST AS IT IS. HOPEFULLY THE COUNTY WOULD ACCEPT THIS.
CC TO BRIAN CALLAGAN, PAUL ARCHAMBEAU
Very truly yours,

Project Description: Manufatured Home
The Mason County Department of Community Development is currently reviewing all
permits that are expired and have not been approved for occupancy and use.
Pursuant to Mason County Code, Title 14 Building and Construction, a permit and
final inspection for this type of activity is required under the 2006 International
Building Code and your property is currently in violation status of occupancy and use.
Please contact our office to make the necessary arrangements 21 days from
the date of this letter. Failure to contact our office to make the necessary scheduled
inspections will result in enforcement actions.
To bring your site into compliance, you must schedule an inspection. One (1) $64.00
site investigation fee will need to be paid prior to inspection along with any
outstanding fees currently due on your building permit. For every inspection required
after that, you will be charged $64.00 again, per inspection until final inspection and
conditions are met.
To schedule an inspection, please call (360) 427-9670 ext. 262.
If you should have any questions regarding this notification, please contact me at
(360) 427-9670 ext 359.
Sincerely,
Terry Ryan
