Plan Submittal Requirements
Your plan submittal shall include the following:
• Plans shall be on standard 24" x 36"paper, drawn to scale with dimensions and north arrow.
• Site and Floor plan with cross sectional and exterior elevations.
• Location of occupancy and/or area separation walls, partitions, stairway enclosures, concealed spaces, etc.
• Cut sheets and/or references for all new devices.
• Location/description of all new and existing devices.
• Battery calculations.
• Wiring diagrams per floor or zone overlaid on an accurate floor plan.
• Electrical riser diagram showing all zones, circuits, devices, and end —of— line resistors.
• Hydraulic calculations.
• Copy of Contractors bid.
Fees
The permit fee will be assessed based on the submitted contractor bid for the project or a minimum of$168.50.
A plan review fee will be calculated at 65%of the permit fee(minimum$109.50)and is due upon submittal of permit application.

I certify that I am a currently registered contractor in the State of Washington. I am aware of the ordinance requirements regulating
the work for which the permit is issued and certify that all work will be in compliance with this ordinance. No changes will be made

The effect of pressure-reducing valves on the system should be considered in the hydrau-
lic calculation procedures.
Pumps can be used on municipal supplies as well as on stored supplies,as indicated in Section 4 FAQ

With regard to Section 6.2(2), a system can occasionally be supplied from an elevated
tank.Where an elevated tank is used,it must have an elevation sufficient to provide adequate
pressure to supply the system. Adequate pressure is determined by the methods described in
8.4.4 and 8.4.6.
Where a pressure tank is used for the water supply in accordance with Section 6.2(3),the
amount of water and air in the tank is determined according to the information in 8.4.6.NFPA
13,Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, contains criteria for pressure tanks that
are acceptable as a water source for NFPA 13 systems.Pressure tanks used as a water supply
do not have to meet the requirements of NFPA 22,Standard for Water Tanks for Private Fire
Protection. Tanks constructed in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code
can be acceptable,provided the authority having jurisdiction considers the air or nitrogen sup-
ply reliable. I
With regard to Section 6.2(4),a water supply source,whether stored or from a municipal
supply used in conjunction with an automatically operated pump, must be as follows: II
1. Have a pump with adequate capacity to supply the water demand as described in 8.1.1.

Figures A.6.2(a), A.6.2(b), and A.6.2(c)show preferred and acceptable arrangements of
connections to city mains and include appropriately located control valves,meters,domestic
takeoffs, waterflow detectors, pressure gauges, and check valves. Where the local water au-
thority requires backflow preventers, the devices are normally located in the position where
the rubber-faced check valve is shown on the figures. The piping arrangement, including
valves and fittings, must be taken into account when performing the calculations for system
adequacy described in 8.4.4.
From a fire protection standpoint, meters and backflow preventers are undesirable be-
cause of the high friction loss characteristic of the devices,which must be included in the sys-
tem's hydraulic calculation in accordance with 8.4.4. Unfortunately, many water authorities
require metering of all water connections to a residence.In addition,clean water environmen-
tal concerns are leading more jurisdictions to require backflow preventers instead of tradi-
tional, less costly check valves. Check valves have performed satisfactorily, and no case
histories involving backflow contamination from fire protection systems using check valves

are available.Nonetheless,local jurisdictions often require the use of backflow.devices.

6.3* Multipurpose Piping System
f A piping system serving both sprinkler and domestic needs shall be considered to be accept-
able by this standard where the following conditions are met:
(1)*In common water supply connections serving more than one dwelling unit, 5 gpm(19 U
min)shall be added to the sprinkler system demand to determine the size of common piping

603.4.12 Potable water supply to carbonators shall be
protected by a listed reduced pressure principle backflow
preventer as approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction
for the specific use.The backflow preventer shall be located
in accordance with Section 603.3.4.The piping downstream
of the backflow preventer shall not be of copper,copper
alloy,or other material that is affected by carbon dioxide.
