BACKGROUND:
Mr. Funk owns property located about 0.5 miles south of the Grapeview/Stretch Island Road
intersection on Stretch Island, approximately 0.5 miles east of Grapeview, Mason County,
Washington. This site of some 3.6 acres was formerly grape land with rows of grapes located
across the slopes. It has been abandoned for years and Douglas fir and other shrubs and trees
have grown up along the grape rows.
The Funks propose to build a residence to be located as noted on Computation Page 1.
LOCATION:
A portion of the S ''/2 of Government Lot 6, Township 21 North, Range 1 West W.M., Mason
County, Washington.
SUMMARY:
Reference the Site Plan—Computation Page 1.
Storm flows from the roof, sidewalks and paved access road will be routed away from salt water
and to the north along the existing low area which lies between the two existing ridges. Based on
the USGS quad sheet, flow from this low area will extend several hundred feet to the north where
a drainage way outlets to the west into salt water. There is no defined drainageway on this
property. Also, there is no defined permanent ponded area in this low ground.
E It is proposed that no additional flows will be routed west from the house site toward the North
Bay of Case Inlet. Storm water from the roof and other paved areas will be directed away from
the waterfront into the existing low area to the east of the first ridge. The access road will be
routed from Stretch Road as sketched on Page 1. To maintain an all weather road, it is proposed
to fill across the low area and outlet flows from the adjacent area to the south through a 12 inch
diameter culvert. From the culvert to about 10 feet before the north property line, it is proposed
to construct a Swale of four ft. bottom width and 3 ft. (Horizontal) to 1 ft. (Vertical) side slopes
with an average depth of one foot. This swale will concentrate flow during low runoff and
provide some additional infiltration area during heavier runoff periods..
