Dear Grace Miller,
This is my official request for a one year extension (until Jan. 25, 2014) of Variance number VAR2010-00006. We are
still in the design phase of our project and cannot begin before Jan. 25, 2013. Also conditions for the approval of
the variance include constructing during the dry season to reduce erosion control efforts, and the dry season is
several months away yet.
Thank you for your consideration of our request.

Hi Cindy.
You may submit a written request for the one year extension. E-mail is fine.Just explain the circumstances for
needing to extend the permit and note the date you will need it extended to(up to one year after expiration). As
long as some works begins by that date, the permit will remain valid.Thank you.

Dear Grace,
Happy 2013 to you and yours!
We acquired the above referenced variance with the idea of building a house on our property at Harstene point.
With the building moratorium,we lost steam on the project, and it got shuffled to the bottom of the priority list.
We have picked up this project as part of our new year goals and discovered that we are precariously close to our
two year start date!
I see in County code 15.09.100, section C, that a one year extension is available. How can we apply for that
extension? I'm sure there must be a form I need to submit or something like that.
Thanks for your help in this matter,
Cindy Arora

Mr. Mackey,
The standards for the footprint is explained within the Fish and Wildlife Habitat Conservation Area
Chapter Variance review standards as the following:
"Included in the total allowed area for a residence is a) the area of the first floor of the residence, b)
the area of any covered or uncovered decks or patios proposed, except for the area of landings at
entrances of a minimum size to meet building code requirements, c) the area of roof overhangs
greater than two feet, and d) the area of any living space or decks on any floor other than the first
floor that extend beyond the walls of the first floor unless its area is already included in b) or c)
above, and d)the area of any accessory structure.the area should be the same as the area covered
by structures as seen in a birds eye view of the site looking directly down with the exceptions of not
counting the roof overhangs of not more than two feet and not counting the landings at entrances
of a minimum size to meet building code requirements."
Hope that answers your question. Thank you.

Message: Attn: Grace Miller, I am working on the house design for the Arora property on Harstine
Island. In regards to the approved variance building sq. ft.,can you define "footprint." Is this
foundation perimeter, drip-line or birds-eye view including decks?
