The parcel is located near the end of Ayock Point and has frontage on Hood Canal. A single-family residence is present on site and is threatened by increased beach erosion. Construction of a normal, protective bulkhead is governed by the provisions of the Mason County Shoreline Master Program and various state and federal regulations. With regard to County requirements, construction of a bulkhead would require a Shoreline Exemption, review under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), and a building permit. The appropriate forms and fees for application are the JARPA form ($125.00, for the Shoreline Exemption), the Environmental Checklist ($200.00, for SEPA), and the Mason County Building Permit Application ($ to be determined by length of bulkhead). Other agencies also have jurisdiction over bulkhead construction and may have permits or exemptions to issue. The JARPA and a set of drawings should also be sent to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), and the Washington Department of Ecology (WDOE). Construction materials and methods should be coordinated with the various agencies. Approval of method and materials by WDFW usually correlates to compliance with Mason County requirements. If you have questions or require clarification on these issues, please contact me. 5/29/2002 2 of 2 SP12002-00062 MASON COUNTY SHORELINE PRE-INSPECTION APPLICATION FLtASE PRINT $70.00 Fee Required 1.
