Herber I have reviewed the stability of the retaining wall located near highway 106 of the Pots of Gold property. This letter report is provided as a guide for re--establishing the wall into its original condition and is not a certification or a guarentee of the overall stability of the retaining wall in eather it 's original or repaired condition . The original rubber tire retaining wall extends from the paved driveway to or near the north-east property boundary. The wall varies in height to a maximum of nine feet. The embankment behind the wall rises at. about one foot vertical to two foot horizontal . The exposed soil in the area appears to be well drained gravelly till . The rubber tire construction (a form of bin wall ) appears to have been accomplished with reasonable ' care in placement and compaction of native material into the core of each tire . The portion of wall damaged by the fire has a uniform back slope of 1/6 and has no indication of failure as evidenced by bulging or toe slip. The fire has completely destroyed the exposed portion of the rubber tires over about forty lineal feet of wall, or about 460 square feet of wall . The structural integraty of the wall, though damaged, has not been entirely lost . A suitable facing to prevent erosion of the exposed earthen ir.fill will restore the retaining wall to it ' s near original structural condition . The repair method selected needs to protect the infill from errosion and provide free drainage . An uncemented rock facing will provide this protection for the least cost . The rock facing should consist of 12 inch or larger rock carefully selected and keyed . As the wall is placed, voids behind the rock wall must be filled with a free draining bank run gravel and tamped in place . The estimated contract cost for construction is about $3, 500 if the work can be accomplished after the fire debris is removed and before new obstructions (such as a replacement mobile home ) are placed . A more exact contract price can be obtained by soliciting proposals from competent land scape contractors .
