Merriniount Dr.,IJnion,'N'A (Case No.SPI-2008-00014, Parcel No.3223 55201001) Ref: Field Report prepared by MET on Fri.9-11-2009- Attached. Oil Tuesday Jule 28. 2009 this gcotechnical engineer was called out to the above jobsite to inspect the foundation formwork prior to the footing pour scheduled for Wedne,day, July 29. 2009. As stated in MET's geotechnical engincering report dated March 19. 2008 all footings are to lie constructed on undisturbed native glacial till soils. This engineer verified that this %vas the case after a field inspection otthe forinwork for the footing. Also,this engineer recoinmcnded that a triangular section of the inside garage corner tooting be blocked off and poured later during: the concrete stentwall pour since this corner of the garage footintt had to he filled in with Wackfill first for stability purposes. Atier discussing the type and quantity or backtill with the general contractor, it was agreed upon to backf ill behind the stemwall as rollo%%s: the lower third .with 2-1/2" crushed and compacted in place with a 350+ lb vibratory plate compactor, then the middle third of the backf ill to be filled with 1-1/4" crushed rock and compacted.and then, finally, the last third tilled with peagravcl. This did not have to tx- compacted since it is essentially self-compacting as soon as it is placed at the site. Also, this peagravcl made, it easier to install the necessary plumbing per plan without having to dig up a lot of compacted crushed rock. On Friday Septenther 11.2009 this engineer inspected the backfill as%yell as the interior fiboting For the garage and determined that the backtill was sufficient. A sharp pointed sit-cl soil probe was used to check for compaction and determined that the bearing capacity of the compacted crushed backtill material met or exceeded the tninimunt allowahle soil bearing capacity of 1500 psf. A reinforced slab will he poured over the peagravel after a vapor barrier has been laid down first. Since the concrete stetmvall will hold the peagravcl in place (luring the slab pour, the slab %vill remain intact and not crack due to shifting of peagravcl. This was completed in August of 2008 under FE project number 8155. Revisions to the plan took place in October of 2008 and October of 2009. It has been brought to our attention the Building Inspector created a checklist during a recent framing inspection of 5 (five) items to be investigated or verified by our office. 1. "Have engineer okay all roof beam changes and addition beams added for false truss beams. Must address added loads to floor." The dead weight and resulting load path of the false beam system has been calculated and followed. • The loads of the system on the right side of the Great Room land on floor beams that are lightly stressed before and even after the addition of the false beam loads. No modifications are necessary. • The loads of the system on the left side of the Great Room land directly above walls at the lower level, which in turn bear on the concrete slab on grade. Verify that solid blocking exists in the floor system, below the false beam supports. Verify also that posts are added in the walls of the basement, directly below the floor blocking and beam supports above. 2. `Rear covered porch beam on left side to be ran back into structure over windows in seating area. Install (a) 6 x 8 header. Have engineer okay or provide fix." The rear covered porch beam on the left side is not required to extend into the structure over the windows in the seating area. The intent of the structural design is for both beams to bear on the common exterior comer and to share the bearing. If both beams indeed are provided with common bearing on the corner, no modifications are necessary. r FLANSBURG ENGINEERING, INC. 3. "Install 4x6 min header at window in master bedroom closet." The window has a 4 x 6 header installed in the flat (weak) direction. Since this wall has a gable style roof overhead, loading to the header is negligible. Replacement of the existing flat header is not necessary. 4. "Door into basement bedroom 4 changed putting load of floor onto 4x header — have engineer okay" A single 4 x 6 header or a double 2 x 6 header will sufficiently support all loads from above; verify that the existing header is at least this minimum size. 5. "Foundation step at master bathroom wall not allowing HD2 to be installed on main floor. Install straps as shown on other details of plans. Hold-downs install in basement <HD2>_ Have engineer okay. Hold-down in basement HD4 or 5." Below the Master Bathroom, if all holdowns were actually installed at the basement level, then MST type holdowns crossing the main floor are indeed required. •� Lower Bathroom; PHD2 type holdowns are required at the basement floor / foundation level, with type 9, CMST14/15 or MST48 straps crossing the main floor. The detail will be similar to detail 30 on sheet S4, however, please notice that the specification in this letter specifies a shorter strap type holdown crossing the floor than the detail does. Type 9 is required, type 10 is not necessary. • Lower Mud Room; PHD5 type holdowns are required at the basement floor / foundation level, with type 9, CMST14/15 or MST48 straps crossing the main floor (as indicated on the original structural drawings, refer to sheets S2 and S3).
