Dear Ron: In response to your inquirey regarding the deficiencies reported by Northwest Sheet Metal Inspection Service, the Building Department would comment as follows : 1 . The Sept . 26, 1994 field inspection by Larry Waters, Building Inspector and Mike Byrne, Building Official confirms or substantiates that : a. Section 503 does not prohibit flexible gas connectors from penetrating the furnace casing, it prohibits the shut off valve from being installed inside the casing. b. Hot water tank needs to be braced properly. Water lines, to tank need to be insulated. (WSEC requirement) C. B vent screws cannot penetrate the inner liner of the vent pipe. Insulation should not be applied next to the B vent in attic. One inch separation is required. d. The single wall vent connector on the furnace is tight against the insulation on the supply duct . Six inches of clearance is required to combustable material . Table no. 5-C, Uniform Mechanical Code. e. Liquified petroleum gas burning appliances shall not be installed in a pit, basement, or similar location where heavier than air gas might collect . Appliances so fueled shall not be installed in an above grade under floor space or basement unless such location is provided with an approved means for removal of unburned gas. Sec. 504 (f) , UMC. f . Provide outside fresh air to the return air duct on the furnace; six inch diameter with a damper. Washington State Indoor Air Quality Code. g. Insulate fan duct in attic.
