I calculate it to be less than the 2150 square feet you indicate on the compliance report. Please send copies of your worksheets so that I may see how you arrive at your numbers. I am enclosing the form used by our jurisdiction for you to complete and return. It' s a Chapter 5 Component Performance compliance report. Per your April 28 letter the following items have been corrected 1) Opaque doors: I have changed door opening 3 from a pair of store doors to a pair of Stanley#A01 flush insulated doors. I counted the glazing in store doors 1 and 2 as part of the 15% maximum in the base case calculation. 2) 1 recomputed the gross floor area at 965.5 square feet and have included my worksheets. 3) 1 recomputed the gross wall area as 1763 square feet and have included my worksheets. The A Chapter 5 approach is a good choice for additions that don't conform to any of the Chapter 6 pathways. This is true because Chapter 5 allows Component Performance calculations to include heat loss improvements In the existing home. The Chapter 6, Presciptive Approach would normally be the first choice for new dwellings since it provides a variety of compliance options, is easier to use, and is no more stringent than Chapter 5. Component Performance calculations may also be performed b computer using Y P y p g programs such as WATTSUN = 5.1. eti. tk Instructions: Pages 1, 2, 3 The first two pages provide instructions and forms for performing the Component Performance ` calculations. The third page sizes the heating system. :f Pages 4 to 8 In the shaded areas, make checks in the circles next to the requirements of your intended < design. Disregard components or equipment that don't apply to your project. Your permit will be processed more efficiently if you provide all the requested information. Department staff can help you with general questions about this form. ` This form is intended to educate and provide enforcement consistancy between inspectors and building jurisdictions. Instead of searching through the WSEC, this form will help organize and condense the >< requirements that apply to your project. Requirements are grouped by foundation, framing, insulation, and final inspection phases. Responsibility for information:It is ultimately your responsibility to provide detailed information about heating systems, glazing, insulation, and other building specifications. Be sure to get prior approval from the k Department if you make changes that deviate from the completed form. For more code detail, refer to the Washington State Energy Code, 1991 Edition. Compliance responsibillty: This form will ultimately be used for all WSEC field inspections. When it is returned r> with your permit, note all boxes that have been checked under the "COMPLIANCE REQUIRED"column. These boxes denote which requirements the inspector will check at each inspection phase. The calculations on the lower part of this page may be ignored it below grade wall insulation will either be R19 on the interior or R10 exterior, or if the basement will not be a habitable space and unheated, and the floor above is insulated. Page 2, Base Case Dwelling Calculation Compute areas using outer surfaces for walls, ceilings (less skylights), and floors. Use the rough framed opening areas for doors. The glazing area is derived by multiplying a constant value (.15) by the sum of the conditioned floor areas(Don't include unheated attached garages, etc). Page 2, Proposed Dwelling Calculation Compute areas using outer surfaces for walls, ceilings, and floors. Use the rough framed opening areas for doors and glazing. Since there are only four boxes on the form for glazing, combine the areas of units with the same Uo value into a single entry. WSEC, Chapter 10, default values must be used for all walls, ceilings, floors, untested doors/glazing, and to determine below-grade wall/slab UA. We suffered some storm damage this year and have had to clear fallen trees and repair wind damage. We have continued construction on the exterior of the cabin but need more time since we are constructing it ourselves. Thank you for your assistance. The work entails deleting a proposed 208 square foot attached sauna and instead constructing a 999 square foot addition and a 328 square foot carport. I spoke with Ms. Nickerson about the submittal and she suggested I send it in and that plan review/permit charges would be determined and I would be notified.
