Specifically, this assessment was prepared in order to substantiate the i settlement repair of the existing single faintly residence_ The existing residence has experienced structural :settlement, and it is planned to be lifted and stabilized with a push pier foundation system. , A site visit was conducted by Michael Staten.with Envirotech on June 4,2014 in order to observe surface conditions- and assess general subsurface conditions near the residence. Differential settlements of the residence appear to be due to excessive unconsolidated fill.beneath the foundation,especially on.the south end(downslope side)of the structure.This is common in the area, and movements usually occur during an earthquake or during times of abundant, shallow = groundwater. Excessive groundwater was observed by the seepage and water plants located both upslope and to the west of the residence. The parent geological unit in this area is glacial till,a very dense soil(hardpan)underlying about 4 to 5 feet of looser overburden.This is confirmed by geological mapping,and several subsurface .investigations by Envirotech in the area. Due to the.fill material,the depth to hardpan from the base of the house is estimated to be approximately 10 feet. Envirotech concludes that deep foundations are prudent for the repair of the home's foundation. j A push-pier system is proposed,and will be adequate with the pier's end bearing located on the very dense hardpan soils believed to be about 10 feet below the existing ground surface. We believe this depth may vary 5 feet or so where foundation repair is necessary due to natural undulations of the glacial till surface that are sometimes encountered. The push pier system.is proprietary,and as such,installation shall follow manufacturer's and/or the structural engineer's requirements.
