RE : Building Permit Request BLD2000-00528
Dear Mr. Donaldson,
Upon review of your building permit application and
accompanying letter, it has been noted that you intend to
construct a deck and install a propane tank. As I stated in my
voice mail message, a separate permit is required for the deck if
the walking surface exceeds 30" in height from finished grade .
As you requested, I faxed to you the deck requirements provided
by the Building Official and also, the propane tank permit
requirements . A separate permit is required for the installation
of any size propane tank if it' s purpose is to serve a fixed
appliance within a structure . Included with this mailing, are
the requirements which I had faxed.
Another issue has now been identified with your proposed
placement . Upon review of the plot plan provided, it was
determined that a site inspection was necessary to establish
compliance to setbacks from ascending and descending slopes . It
is the determination of the building inspector, Dusty Rhodes,
that your proposal is inconsistent with the requirements of the
1997 Uniform Building Code, Sections 1806 . 5 . 2 and 1806 . 5 . 3 and
can not be approved as submitted. For further clarification on
this matter, please contact Mr. Rhodes at (360) 427-9670 ext 280
between the hours of 8 : 00am to 9 : 00am and possibly 3 : 00pm-4 : 00pm,
Monday through Friday.
If you should have further comments or questions on the
information that I faxed to you or this notification, please
contact me at (360) 427-9670 ext 356 .

Dear Debra and Cindy:
In a telephone conference with Michael MacSems on May 10, 2000, 1 was advised that
our above-noted permit application has been referred to your departments.
The purpose of this letter is to determine a probable time line for completion of this

is a critical time line for us, as we are scheduled to occupy the home in the first week
of June.
Please do not hesitate to call us col!ect if any additional information is needed in

Re: Building Permit Application
To Whom it May Concern:
Pursuant to your instructions, I enclose herewith the following:
1. Building Permit Application to place a 37'3" body length park model trailer
on my vacation property at 5700 Highway 106 East, Union, WA
(Southshore Hoods Canal). This unit will be parked on the lot pending the
permit approval. We purchased it and have no other place to store it
pending approval to permanently site it, hook it up, and occupy it;
2. A site diagram showing distances involved. The property slopes up hill to
the west of the retaining wall, but the property on which the trailer will be
sited is level and flat;
3. Copies of the manufacturer's floor plan and specifications of the trailer
involved;
4. Copies of on-site Sewage Installation Final Approval for the site;
5. Copies of Shoreline Site Inspection for the site;
6. Water Adequacy Form; and
7. Check in the amount of $175.00.

was informed by your department that the approval of this rather minor permit
application would take four weeks. Being from Cowlitz County, I was surprised it would
take so long for such a simple installation. The water, sewer and power are already
installed and approved.
We had hoped to have this unit tied down, hooked up and ready for occupancy by no
later than June 1, 2000. We accordingly would appreciate any expediting that could be
done on this request.
Finally, we will be building a wooden deck on the front side of the trailer. The deck will
be at door level of the trailer, which could vary between 30" and 32" high. The deck will
extend out from the trailer about 14' and will probably be 24' in length. Please advise
immediately what additional information, if any, your department needs in respect to the
deck, since we cannot occupy the trailer until a deck has been constructed.
Yours very truly,
Donaldson

RE: Building Permit Request BLD2000-00528
Dear Mr. Donaldson,
Upon review of your building permit application and
accompanying letter, it has been noted that you intend to
construct a deck and install a propane tank. As I stated in my
voice mail message, a separate permit is required for the deck if
the walking surface exceeds 30" in height from finished grade .
As you requested, I faxed to you the deck requirements provided
by the Building Official and also, the propane tank permit
requirements . A separate permit is required for the installation
of any size propane tank if it' s purpose is to serve a fixed
appliance within a structure.
Rhodes at (360) 427-9670 ext 280
between the hours of 8: 00am to 9 : 00am and possibly 3 :00pm-4 : 00pm,
Monday through Friday.
If you should have further comments or questions on the
information that I faxed to you or this notification, please
contact me at (360) 427-9670 ext 356 .
