Dear Sean Derek:
As per your request I visited the property proposed for sale at 341 Kuhn in Union Washington. The purpose of
a preliminary site visit is to determine the level of geotechnical work required to meet with standards of County
Planning with respect to the suitability of the slope for the proposed structure. The results of this investigation,
together with our recommendations, are to be found in the following letter. I have provided three copies for
your review and distribution.
Prior to the site visit, I had examined maps of the area and the elevation contours provided by the county
assessor's office. The geology indicates the lot is in the unit known as Qapo (pre-late Wisconsinan Alpine
outwash) and Qgt (Vashon till). Briefly, these are both excellent materials on which to build. The elevations
overall indicate a slope of around 15%, and my fieldwork confirmed this using a K& E inclinometer.. Because
the area has been extensively terraced for roads, drainage capture, and housing pads, the overall slope is
difficult to nail down, but the immediate area of the site is 15% or less. There are no landslide hazard areas
within 300 feet of the site. There are no indications at or near the proposed site for any hazards that would
threaten the project.
It is my professional opinion that there are no reasons to require either a geologic assessment or geotechnical
report. I recommend approval. County standards and general construction procedures should be observed for
environmental and safety purposes.
