There are three bell circuits and three initiating circuits that are not supervised. I have been advised that the parts are on order and that these repairs should be made by the end of the week. I would also like you to look at the construction of a Garden - Garbage shed to be located next to driveway. He felt the existing firehood did not meet fire code. I A new firehood is expensive and is not bud5eted. Even so, should it be necessary, we would find some way to install one. I do not believe a new firehood is necessary. OWith the question raised, we felt the need to contact you. The firehood and flue, constructed of continuous welded stainless steel and galvanized sheetmetal , was installed in 1988 . Included was an approved fire suppression system , a spring-loaded fuseable link flue damper and a mechanical gas shut off should the system W111, tAA be activated . In 1994 you issued a permit for a fire alarm system in the sleeping areas, furnace areas and to connect the existing firehood into the overall system. After installation, you personally inspected, tested and approved all systems. This did not cover the entire complexin the fire alarm system. You agreed to this situation with the understanding with the then future remodeling the system would be completed. This is now being done together with your other recommendations; 1 ) Removal of the cedar paneling and 5/8' fire-rock installed on all walls and ceilings in the sleeping areas . 2) Fire-stops in the exterior balloon framed walls. With our current remodeling, Hultz/BHC Inc. , Mike Taglis Engineer 1326 Tacoma Ave. S Tacoma, Wa. 98402 ( 253-383-3257) designed our mechanical systems and called for the flue raceway from the firehood out thru the roof to be lined with two layers of 5/8" fire-rock. As of this date the area is open ready for work St. Andrew' s House Re: Lodge Firehood Date: 11 /3/99 Pg. 2 to be done. The engineer also relocated the gas shut-off valve. This has been accompished with a new hook-up to the range. No other retrofit was required and is so indicated on the approved drawings . The system has been and of course continue to be inspected twice a year, first by the fire extinguisher company and again by the systems monitoring company. What do I need from you? Possibly a note that you concure with the recommendations of mechanical engineer and if properly installed and with the appropriate inspections you would approve the system as designed should all systems work on final inspection. Or some such- Again, the existing firehood is not being altered. We are only extending the exaust duct up thru the 2nd floor. T ou nk fo your help Burton E. Box 186 PERMIT Shelton, Wa. 98584 Dear Dave; Pursuant to our phone conversation Wednesday 8/25/99, I am requesting permission to leave the St. Andrew's House Smoke Detection System disconnected until the end of November or until we are ready for occupancy. We are in the process of a major remodeling. There is not nor will there be any guests, sleeping or otherwise, until this project is completed. Because the lodge is so open, the only exception is the Washington State Brown Bat. You know the one the governor ' s family likes so well. In the sleeping areas we have removed all the interior cedar paneling to install fire stops, insulation, thermopane windows and -% fire rock. The dining room is being enlarged to meet code space requirments . The existing chapel will become two handiecap bedrooms . A new chapel will be in the east lawn. Some by design xTid some because of construction, much of the electrical wiring, heating system, all the plumbing and a portion of the existing Smoke Detection System will be redone. Of course this time when finished the entire building will be under the Smoke Detection System. Thank you for your concerns .
