Wall concrete shall have a maximum water-cement ratio of .45, contain at least 560 pounds of cement per cubic yard and shall have an entrained air content of 4 to 6%. Water reducing admixtures compatible with tie air entraining admixture may be used to increase the concrete's workability. Maximum size of coarse aggregate at wall shall not exceed 1-112'. ' 3 Note 6, Concrete, continued. Wall control joints shall be located at all transitions in height and/or thickness, and at locations noted on Elevation, Sheet D-1. These joints shall be formed as noted in Standard Detail B/T. All concrete shall be thoroughly vibrated during placement using a 2' diameter spud vibrator. Footing concrete shall be wet cured for at least three days. Wall concrete shall be continuously wet cured for at least seven days. In addition to wet curing, it is recommended that two coats of Masterbuilder's MB 429 Curing Compound be applied to wall surfaces. Curing compound coverage per gallon shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Fresh and partially cured concrete shall be protected against the effects of cold weather and freezing. Contact Engineer for detailed recommendations as required. Backfill shall not be placed at walls until the wall and footing concrete have attained a minimum compressive strength of 2500 psi. 1) Two separate drainage systems are required to help maintain dry enclosed areas below grade: a) Perforated footing underdrains at foundations extending behind the full length of the retaining wall. Drains shall be 4' diameter perforated PVC pipe sloped a minimum of 112' per 10'-0' run to daylight. Drains shall exit to daylight at least 5'-0' down-slope of retaining wall foundations. Provide drain clean-outs as noted on Plan, Sheet D-1. b) All building down-spouts and other concentrated sources of run-off shall be connected to a separate 4' minimum diameter ADS non-perforated tubing tightline. This drain shall be sloped a minimum of 112' per 10'-0' run to daylight, and shall exit at least 5'-0' down-slope of building foundations. Provide clean-outs at up-slope ends and at any sharp bends. Notify Engineer of any springs or other sources of run-off encountered during construction and/or final grading so that drainage system may be modified as required. All perforated drains shall have openings oriented toward the base and shall be bedded in a 3' minimum thickness of crushed rock fill. See Note 5 and Details for fill material requirements, dimensions and protection at perforated drains. All drain line components shall be connected with the appropriate 'Ell', 'Tee' or 'Y' fittings. Clean-outs shall be fitted with end caps. 8) Depending upon specific site conditions, uses and finishes anticipated for below grade space, quality of construction and compliance with Plan Details and Notes L Specifications; separate waterproofing measures at the retaining wall may be required. To provide the maximum level of moisture protection for below grade finished areas, the Engineer generally recommends the following measures: a Snap-ties used at stem wall have a neoprene waterproofing washer at mid-length. b Installation of waterstops at wall/slab construction joints as shown in Detail A/T. c Installation of a positive waterproofing system, such as American Colloid Company's Volclay Type 1C Panels. If such systems are to be considered, contact Engineer for additional details prior to construction. Based upon Engineer's site visit and his understanding that below grade areas of building will be utilized only as an unfinished garage, special snap-ties, waterstops and Volclay Panels are not required. This conclusions would change if the Owner anticipates a future conversion of garage to finished space. ' 4 ZI The following Notes 9 and 10 are recommended specifications for cast in place and drilled-in adhesive anchor bolts. No engineered design has been completed for anchor bolts on this project. Notes 9 and 10 exceed the minimum prescriptive requirements specified in Chapters 25 and 29 of the Uniform Building Code. 9) Anchor bolts at wood frame walls shall be conventional cast in place 'J' bolts or drilled-in adhesive anchors meeting the requirements of Note 9.
