pry Booths equipped with filters are used to confine and limit the escape of spray,vapor,and
residue,and safely collect or direct them to an exhaust,system. Paint Spray Booths are available J a
' Variety Of sizes(width, depth and height) and man different
P gh} y types. The specific type depends on the
amount and kind of material to be sprayed and the method of application.
Yowhave purchased a Dry Type Spray Paint Wall designed for intermittent or limited paint spraying ing in
locations where air filtration is of priority to the surrounding environment. This Paint Wall provides yopr
personnel-with a Workstation,if properly constructed and maintained,will meet this objective.
The?aint.Wall panel sections are manufactured from 1.8 GA galvanized steel and shipped with necessaryr
hardware and components for easy construction. A Paint Wall package consist of materials and
components that meet requirements of the Underwriters.Laboratories,National Board of Fire
Underwriters,National Fire Protection Association{NFPA 33}, and NFPA's National Electric Code. if
constructed zM:maintained properly,this equipment meets OSHA requirements as well as most of the
;..: codes,regulations and requirements of local and state fire, health and environmental agencies, It is the
responsibility of the user to ensure that this equipment is installed and maintained in accordance with
,current local regulations.
J3:. PRECAP TIONS €
As per NFPA 33 there are precautions that should be observed when operating spray booths equipped
with dry overspray collection filters-
A. Precautions pertaining to materials and filters are as follows:
1. Filters should not be used when applying materials known to be highly susceptible to s
�
spontaneous heating or spontaneous ignition.

2. When replacing filters, only noncombustible type of materials should be used for supports ...
and holders.
3. Fitters should not be alternately used for different types of coating materials if the j
combinations of materials might result in spontaneous heating or ignition.

the combination of the materials is conducive to spontaneous ignition, unless all dCpcsits of
the first-used coating material are removed from the walls and exhaust ducts prior to ,.
spraying with the second coating.

B. General operating precautions are as follows: €
1. Do not erect and/or operate this spraying equipment near open flames, spark-producing
equipment or other hazardous operations. Open flames, spark-producing equipment of .'
other hazardous operations should be adequately partitioned from the spray area at a
distance that is in compliance with local and state codes and regulations. .;
2. Spray area to be kept free of the accumulation of combustible residue deposits. To
facilitate the cleaning overspray and impede corrosive action of the wall surfaces, one of
several available commercial booth coatings should be applied to the interior of the booth.
Due to potential fire hazards, the use of grease and paper are not recommended.
3. The exhaust fan filter system of the Paint Wall is designed to provide adequate airflow to t
meet national standard. It is necessary that maintenance procedures be established to
replace overspray collector filters before excessive restriction to airflow occurs.
Periodically checking the draft gauge is recommended as an indicator for replacing;filters.
Therefore it is essential to ensure that the draft gauge is installed properly and maintained
as per the manufacturers instructions.
HL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
r Asper NFPA33, here area few guidelines to aid in erecting this Paint Wall. It is advisable that a copy of
the latest NFPA 33 Standard be acquired prior to erecting your Paint Wall, The address is National Fire

A. Booth Placement '
1. Select an area to erect your Paint Wall having substantial floor and ceiling clearances. .
sRemove all obstructions that may interfere with the exhaust fan and ducting. Depending,
t on the constriction materials of the building that is to house this Paint Wall,the three
enclosed sides should have at least 3 feet or more of clearance from nearest wall or
partition. This clear space should be kept free of any storage or combustible constiuctio .
2. For closed-top,open-front Paint Wail, having clearance of 10 foot horizontally out from
opening and 3 foot vertically, should satisfy most fire and electrical codes and standards.

2. Before starting, thoroughly review the drawings and instructions. Each component
indicated on the drawing(page 7)corresponds to the Item No. listed on Industrial Paint
Wall Assembly Sequence (page 8). These two pages will guide you through the
assembling of the Paint Wall. 3 {

3. Start the assembling by connecting Item No's. 1 &2 (Exhaust Plenum Walls) as shown ih
1 Detail II on page 9. This will be the right rear corner of the Paint Wall. Note,it is .eery ,

important to stay on the chalk outline during the assembly process.
4. Space Tek Screws approximately 8•- 12 inches apart.

i 5. Seal all panel joints with caulk(provided)after the Paint Wall has been completely.
erected. Tighten all bolts and secure the booth to the floor. Seal all seams from the

interior of the Paint Wall.
t 6. Mount the exhaust fan and motor. Ensure that there are not obstructions inside the°fan
unit. After the fan motor has been properly wired, check fan rotation as indicated by the
label on the unit,

services to do all wiring,hardware and components necessary to make the unit oprable

9. Manometer(draft gauge)setting: ; i
a) Calibrate the gauge with the exhaust fan running and new exhaust filters in place. N06 F

b) Take pieces of cardboard and partially cover the filter wall in a checkerboard f4shion.to
simulate clogged filters. Add sufficient pieces of cardboard until the surface veilocity
drops to the minimum allowable 100 feet r minute using a velour .r. Note t'

reading on the manometer and mark it with another piece of tape. This is the point t.
(pressure measurement)at which to change out exhaust filters. Also the liquid in the� `t
manometer should read approximately.75 iun.w.c. difference which is another n4ethod
to use as an indicator to change out exhaust filters. .
c) Upon removal of all cardboard,the pressure should return to its original point on the
manometer marked with tape.
d) The Paint Wall is now ready for operation. '
B. MAINTENANCE

1. Daily or when overspray accumulates--remove overspray and coating from the;Paint j :i
I Wall interior, operator's floor area,baffles, fan and exhaust ducting. Use a non; t
ferrous,non-sparking scraper to eliminate any possibilities of igniting combustible 1
material. To prevent'fire hazards do not allow overspray and piles of paint sweping5'''
to accumulate in the Paint Wall ama.
2. When overspray accumulates—remove and clean the blade of the exhaust fan. 1.
