°-lI. PRECAUTIONS
As per NFPA 33 there are precautions that should be observed when operating spray booths equipped
with dry orverspray collection filters. s
" i -.
1 1•- .
A. Precautions pertaining to materials and filters are as follows:
1. Filters should not be used when applying materials known to be highly susceptible to
• r.
spontaneous heating or spontaneous i0tion. ;
2. •.When replacing filters, only noncombustible type of materials should be used for sufiports=
• and holders. {
f.•i
3. Filters should not be alternately used for different types of coating materials if the
combinations of materials might result in spontaneous heating or ignition. i
4.;..
4. The same Paint Wall shal I not be alternately used for different s of coating materials if r
type g s:
the combination of the Materials is conducive to spontaneous ignition, unless all deposits of
the first-used coating material are removed from the walls and exhaust ducts prior to --
spraying witb the second coating. a

B. I r r
S
Genera operating'n pr
ecautions ecatrt ons are as follows:
p SP
0 ows:
r
, 1.
I. `Do not erect and/or operate this spraying equipment near open flames, spark-producing
equipment or other hazardous operations. Open flames, spark-producing equipment of
other hazardous operations should be adequately partitioned from the spray area at a
distance that is in compliance with local and state codes and regulations.
2. Spray area to be kept free of the accumulation of combustible residue deposits. To
i
> facilitate the cleaning overspray and impede corrosive action of the wail surfaces, one of
several available commercial booth coatings should be applied to the interior of the booth.
10
>i Due to potential fire hazards, the use of grease and paper are not recommended.
3. The exhaust fan filter system of the Paint Wall is designed to provide adequate airflow to ;.
meet national standard. It is necessary that maintenance procedures be established to
re P P Y lace overs ra collector filters before excessive restriction to airflow occurs.
Periodically checking the draft gauge is recommended as an indicator for replacing;filters.
Therefore it is essential to ensure that the draft gauge is installed properly and maintained
as per the manufacturers instructions.

I. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS } `
Asper NFPA", here area few guidelines to aid in erecting this Paint Wall. It is advisable that a copy of
" the latest NFPA 33 Standard be acquired prior to erecting your Paint Wall, The address is National Fire
Protection Association, 1 Batterymarch Park, P.O. Box 9101, Quincy,M.A.02269-9101. To order, call I-
800-344-3555.
A. Booth Placement
1. Select an area to erect your Paint Wall having substantial floor and ceiling clearances. .
Remove all obstructions that may interfere with the exhaust fan and ducting. Depending,
4 on the constniction materials of the building that is to house this Paint Wall, the three
enclo:ted sides should have at least 3 feet or more of clearance from nearest wall or
partition. This clear space should be kept free of any storage or combustible construction.
1 S
2• For closed-top,open-front Paint Wall, having clearance of 10 foot horizontally out from
opening and 3 foot vertically, should satisfy most fire and electrical codes and standards.
It is owners' responsibility to check with local planning and development agencies to
confirm all local and state codes and standards.
F
- i
3. Floor surface of work area inside Paint Wall must be of noncornbustible material_
4. After the floor space has been determined and meets all fire and safety criteria, use a chalk .
line and layout the outer perimeter of Paint Wall, J.

iA breakdown with its relationship to the adjoining panels (see page 7). Each panel is identified by numbed
and corresponds to the Item No. listed on the Industrial Paint Wall Assembly Sequence page(see page 8). !
On page 9 are the details that are referred to in the Direction of Assembly section of the Paint Wall
Assembly Sequence on page 8. Parts List on page 10 provides a listing of materials and hardware-that
makes up a unit and also serves as the packing list. ,j[LbLF[F
A. Assembly Instruction
1. Uncr'ate all components and stack panels of the same size together. As indicated oi,r pare
8 (Industrial Paint Wall Assembly Sequence), sire and description identify each panel,
Check inventory of all components prior to starting.
7
2. Before starting, thoroughly review the drawings and instructions. Each component {
indicated on the drawing(page 7)corresponds to the Item No listed on Industrial Paint
Wall Assembly Sequence(page 8). These two pages will guide you through the
assembling of the Paint Wall.
3. Start the assembling by connecting Item No's. 1 &2 (Exhaust Plenum Walls) as shown in
Detail II on page 9. This will be the right rear corner of the Paint Wall. Note,it is very
important to stay on the chalk outline during the assembly process.
4. Space Tek Screws approximately 8-- 12 inches apart.
1
i 5. Seal a!1 panel joints with caulk(provided)after the Paint Wall has been completely
i erected. Tighten all bolts and secure the booth to the floor. Seal all seams from the
interior of the Paint Wall. s
1 6. Mount the exhaust fan and motor. Ensure that there are not obstructions inside the;fan
unit. After the fan motor has been properly wired, check fan rotation as indicated by the l
l -
label on the unit.
4
7. Install exhaust ducting. Where more than 25 feet of ducting is required, the static, pressure
i is increased so that air flow may be hindered when using the standard exhaust unit '
recommended for this Paint Wall. Where a ducting arrangement of an unusual nature .
j employed or where two or more elbows are used,a similar condition may exist.
Therefore, if either of tlkese situations arise, contact your local distributor or the
1 manufacturer for correct recommendations_ ,. .,
n 8. STANDARD TOOLS &EQUIPMENT CO. does not provide an electrical
P package with .t
the unit. It is suggested that the owner contact a licensed electrical contractor to provid
services to do all wiring, hardware and components necessary to make the unit operable
9.. Manometer(draft gauge)setting:
a) Calibrate the gauge with the exhaust fan running and new exhaust filters in place. Note { .
the heig

piece of tape, t,
b) Take pieces of cardboard and partially cover the filter wall in a checkerboard fashion.to f' .
simulate clogged filters, Add sufficient pieces of cardboard until the surface velocity; t
1 drops to the minimum allowable 100 feet per minute using a velometer. Note tie
reading on the manometer and mark it with another piece of to This is the p tape. point c.

) ready for operation.
T. IvlA3lvrTENANCE .
Tbe,fregcency of the following maintenance checks depends on the amount and kind of materials being
tsprayed. Linder all circumstances, however, these checks should be made at regular intervals to reduce
fire hazards,to maintain the efficiency of the Paint Wall,to prevent freshly painted objects from
becomip2 blemished and to impede rusting of the Paint Wall. {_
t 1. Daily or when overspray accumulates—remove overspray and coating from the;Paint' t
Wall interior, operator's floor area, baffles, fan and exhaust ducting. Use anon,
ferrous,non-sparking scraper to eliminate any possibilities of igniting combustible y l
material. To prevent'fue hazards do not allow overspray and piles of paint sweepings'
to accumulate in the Paint Wall area. t
2. When overspray accumulates—remove and clean the blade of the exhaust fan.
3, Clicuk brlt tension on exhaust fan periodically, Fan and motor bearings may wear
unnecessarily when belts are too tight. = l
