All operating devices designed, located, installed, shall be protected so that they are not to be subjected to mechanical, environmental, or other conditions that could render it inoperable or cause inadvertent operation of the system. Where two or more hazards may be simultaneous involved in the fire by reason of proximity. The hazard shall be protected by individual systems installed to operate simultaneously, or by a single system designed to protect all hazards that may be simultaneously involved. Any hazard that will allow fire propagation from one area to another shall constitute a single fire hazard. All systems must have both automatic and manual methods of activation. Automatic detection and system activation may consist of either electrical or fuse link type devices. Pipe and fittings will be of non-combustible materials having physical and chemical characteristics compatible with the dry chemical powder. Dry chemical containers and expellant gas assemblies shall be installed and located as to the accessibility for inspection, maintenance and charging. All fuel source shut down may consist of either electrical micro switch, pressure switch, mechanical gas valve or electrical solenoid gas valve. In case, Knight Fire Protection isn't supplying the device or material, Knight Fire Protection requires it be supplied and/ or installed by a licensed contractor, all materials shall be in accordance with the manufacturers listed installation and maintenance manual, and meet all codes and standards pertaining to the integrity, function and operation of the system designed and installed by Knight Fire Protection. Materials supplied by an outside source other than Knight Fire Protection have no warranties nor will Knight Fire Protection assume any liabilities stemming from their installation. , A. Clarifications: 1. Its the owner responsibility to provide a UL listed paint spray booth and have approved by the authority having jurisdiction. 2. The booth, listed dampers, ducts and baffles devices shall be designed, constructed and installed to meet NFPA- 33, NFPA - 96 and local codes and standards. 3. The booth will be installed and approved by the local building department or Fire Marshal depending on authority having jurisdiction prior to the fire system installation. 4. The extinguishing system, if provided, will be connected to the alarm system in accordance with the requirements of NFPA- 72 National Fire Alarm code and local standards, so that the activation of the extinguishing system will sound the alarm as well as provide the function of the extinguishing system. 5. The spray booth and its installation is sufficient to support the installation of the fire suppression system. 6. All work to be performed during normal business hours unless agreed to by Knight Fire Protection. 7. The work area is to be accessible at all times during the system installation. 8. Any added time or travel due to construction, electrical work, gas piping, and/or any re-scheduling will be in addition to the proposed bid. 9. Changes in the booth design and construction or fire protection criteria after acceptance of this proposal will be reflected in an increase or decrease in the form of a contract change order. B. Exclusions: 1. Installation and connecting of all electrical devices, alarm system, and fan shut- down unless contracted to do so. s ' ■ OPEN FACE PAINT SPRAY BOOTH #`yrom PROTECTION ii Chem A tLIC0INTERNATIONAL LTD.COMPANY MONARCHTM INDUSTRIAL FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM TECHNICAL MANUAL • COMPONENTS • DESIGN • INSTALLATION • MAINTENANCE Manual No. PC98201 Chapter 1 —General Page 1-1 CHAPTER I General Information INTRODUCTION Pyro-Chem Open Face Paint Spray Booth automatic dry chemical fire suppression system is of the pre-engineered type as defined by the NFPA Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems, NFPA-17. The extinguishing units described in this manual are intended to be installed, inspected, and maintained in accordance with NFPA-17. Limitations detailed in this manual have been established through extensive testing by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Installation and maintenance of the system must conform to the limitations detailed in this manual and be performed by an Authorized Pyro-Chem dealer. The Pyro-Chem Open Face Paint Booth System utilizes a monoammonium phosphate based dry chemical agent (specifically designed to suppress carbonaceous solid, liquid, gas or electrical fires). The system provides mechanical or electrical automatic actuation and can be manually actuated through a remote mechanical pull station. Upon actuation, the system discharges a pre-determined amount of agent to the hazard area. The shutdown of fuel and power to the hazard area is required upon system actuation. Exhaust fan(s) in the ventilation system must be shut off during system discharge to allow the proper concentration of agent to build up in the hazard area. The Pyro-Chem Open Face Paint Booth System is designed to accommodate a mandatory factory pre-set time delay. This time delay is required based on the UL 1254 compliance testing. TEMPERATURE LIMITATIONS The operating temperature range of the Pyro-Chem Open Face Paint Booth System is 32 °F (0 °C) minimum to 120 °F (49 °C) maximum. UL LISTING The Pyro-Chem Open Face Paint Booth Industrial Fire Suppression System has been tested to the UL Standard for Pre-Engineered Dry Chemical Extinguishing_System Units. UL1254 (Revised Sept. 29, 1998), and Listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
