FACTORS CONSIDERED
1). Pocket Gopher habitat use was considered through a mound survey conducted by
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife(WDFW)personnel on Sept18, 2008; current status
of the population; and scientific literature concerning Mazama Pocket Gophers.
CONDITIONS
l. The subject property has pocket gopher use along the northern property line.
2. The 20 foot property line setback area shall be maintained as prairie habitat to allow the
continued existence of the pocket gopher.
3. The applicant must adhere to the following habitat management requirements within the
gopher set-aside:
a. Remove all Scotch Broom (Cytissus scoparius)immediately using above ground
hand techniques(e.g. no significant movement of earth or large machinery); do
not allow shrub or tree encroachment or ground disturbance in this area. The grass
and herb layer shall be preserved.
DURATION OF PROTECTION
The conditions of this Plan shall apply indefinitely, unless such time as the population of pocket
gophers no longer resides on the property thru natural loss or relocation off-site. At such time,
Mason County and the landowner should evaluate the continued need for protection of this
Mazama pocket gopher habitat. Do not assume that the conditions of this Plan no longer apply.
REVIEW AND AMENDMENT
This Plan will be subject to the following review and amendment procedures. The plan may be
reviewed periodically by Mason County, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the
landowner to determine whether: 1) the Plan requires amendment in response to changing
pocket gopher and landowner circumstances; or 2)the terms of the Plan comply with applicable
laws and regulations; or 3)the parties to the Plan are complying with its terms.
COMPLIANCE
Failure to comply with this Plan is a violation of Mason County Codes and may be subject to
civil or criminal penalty.
