On February 18, 2005 Hood Canal School District as Lead Agency issued a "DNS" for the above
project. Please substitute pages of the environmental package sent to you:

Proposed school will have automatic fire sprinklers reducing impacts on fire district.

Hood Canal School District and Bus/Maintenance Facility
Modernizations and Additions
Description of Project:
A complete modernization of existing Hood Canal School, Bus/Maintenance
Facility and site improvements to meet current code and life safety. The
proposed scope of work is to include the following:
• Complete replacement of approximately 50,000 S.F. new school.
• Complete modernization of approximately 15,000 S.F. at gym building and
bus/maintenance facility.
• New 3,000 S.F. play-shed.
• Demolition of existing school approximately 50,000 S.F.
• Siting of new and future portable classroom buildings.
• New fire lanes, parking lots, bus and parent drop off/loading zones.
• Site/sport field improvements to include softball, hard surface play and play
fields.
• Expansion of existing water-mains, and new fire hydrants connected to
existing storage tank and fire pumps.
• Reuse of existing septic tank and drain field or new system.
• Proposed new site work includes new storm drainage system, asphalt and
concrete paving and walks, new electrical service, area lighting, landscaping
and irrigation system.

DATE: February 18, 2005
The Hood Canal School District No. 404 Modernization of the existing Hood Canal School. Work
includes 50,000 S.F. of new school building, play sheds, covered walks, portable classrooms and
modernization of 15,000 square feet of existing buildings and improvements to maintenance/bus
building along with new parking lots, bus loading and playfield improvements.
The preparation and review of the environmental checklist (attached) is in accordance with WAC 197-
11 of the S.E.P.A. guidelines wherein the Hood Canal School District No. 404, as the lead agency, has
declared a "Determination of Nonsignificance" (DNS) the proposed project.
Review comments are due in writing on or before March 7, 2005 for reconsideration of the proposed
declaration.
