1.3 The tanks have 6 inches of "light weight concrete" surrounding the primary storage tank.
1.4 The primary tank shall have a separate intermediate barrier surrounding it which provides a
leak detection space void of fire protection material.
1.5 The tanks shall g
have the fisting mark from Underwriters Laboratory
for Standard 2085
Protected Tanks and Certification from CARB for Phase I and II Vapor Recovew.
1.6 The Anchoring tie downs shall be welded to the bottom of the secondary tank and meet Zone 4
Seismic requirements and must be off-loaded on site with a crane.
1.7 All openings shall be from the top , with threaded NPT risers.
1.8 The Tank Manufacturer shall provide certificate of insurance that provides a minimum of
twenty- two million dollars of Product Liability Covera>;etwo million dollars ($22,000,000) of Product Liability Coverag per occurrence.

VSLW.BT 1 Revised 3/95
Serving the Industry with Quality Tanks and Systems
2.0 PRIMARY STORAGE TANKS:
2.1 The primary storage tank shall be Rectangular in design and constructed of UL specified steel
thickness with continuous welds, inside and out, and have a capacity of 250 to 12,000 gallons.
2.2 The primary storage tank shall be constructed in accordance with UL-142 Standards, and carry
the appropriate UL label.
2.3 The primary tank shall be fitted with: a 4" Fill Port w/ 16 gallon Spill Containment and Locking
Lid; either a 4", 6' or 8" Emergency Vent Port; a 2" Working Vent Port; a 2" Liquid Level
Port; a 2" Port for Dispensing Pump; a 2" Auxiliary port; a 4" Phase I Vapor Recovery Port
and a 3/4" drainback port located within the spill container. (Additional ports are available.)
2.4 The primary tank shall be pressure tested to U.L. 142 Standard (minimum 3 to 5 psi) at the
factory and shall also be field testable.
2.5 The exterior surface of the primary tank shall be cleansed of foreign material and coated with a
corrosion resistant industrial epoxy paint.
2.6 The primary steel tank shall be designed to store M85 (methanol), alcohol petroleum blends
or 100%methanol.
3.0 INTERMEDIATE LEAK DETECTION and INSULATIVE BARRIER:
3.1 Each primary tank shall be completely surrounded by a separate intermediate barrier which
creates a void space around each tank and provides added insulation to the primary tank.
3.2 The intermediate barrier shall be constructed of 1/4 inch thick polystyrene.
3.3 The intermediate barrier shall separate the primary tank walls from the fire protection material;
thus, creating a separate leak detection envelope around each primary tank.
3.4 A 2" monitoring tube shall access the space created between the walls of the intermediate
barrier and the primary tank to detect leaks.
4.0 FIRE PROTECTION:
4.1 The fire protection material shall be light weight concrete and surround the primary tank at a
thickness of six (6) inches, and provide a minimum two (2) hour protection per UFC
Appendix H F and Standard A-II-F and UL 2085 Protected Tanks.
4.2 The fire protective material shall have been tested and approved by a nationally recognized
testing firm.
4.3 The fire protective material shall be of a monolithic pour, performed at the factory.
VSLW.BT 2 Revised 3/95
4.4 The fire protective material shall be verified by a nationally recognized testing firm not to
spauld, crack, or otherwise be adversely affected by maximum temperatures of 2,000'F.
5.0 BULLET RESISTANCE:
5.1 The fire protected primary tank shall be tested by a qualified engineering firm to be resistant to
penetration of the primary tank by a 180 grain, M 2 Ball bullet, traveling at a velocity of not
greater than 2700 feet per second, when fired from a 30.06 caliber rifle, located a maximum of
100 feet from the target.
5.2 The fire protected tank must be able to be repaired in the field by a factory representative
according to written factory procedures, when impacted by a bullet.
5.3 The factory must be able to certify that the primary and secondary containment do not leak,
and that the fire protective material regains its minimum two (2) hour protection.
6.0 SECONDARY LEAK CONTAINMENT TANK:
6.1 The secondary leak containment tank shall be a rectangular steel tank constructed of UL
specified steel thickness with continuous welded seams inside and out.
6.2 The containment tank shall be tested liquid tight at the factory and shall also be field testable,
(minimum 3 psi).
6.3 The containment tank shall provide reinforcement for the 6" of light weight concrete.
6.4 The exterior surface of the containment tank shall be cleansed of foreign material and coated
with a corrosion resistant industrial epoxy paint (3 to 5 mils dry thickness).
6.5 The containment tank shall provide 3601 Radius containment for the primary tank, extending
six (6) inches around the primary tank.
6.6 The containment tank shall be fitted with: a 2" Annular Space Monitoring tube and either a 4",
6", or 8"Emergency Vent port; in addition to openings for all ports in the primary tank.
6.7 The port openings in the top of the containment tank shall be constructed with full welds to
