Findings: 1. Noted additional welding required,two runs at perimeter,spot welds missing,at lap joint additional spot welds required, 3 welds per sheet,marked with paint, advised welders and foreman. 2. At approximately 6 locations, holes burned in top chord of joist,advised foreman and welders to fill holes with weld metal. 3. COM2007-00059 Building Official-Mason County Krazan Job No. 106-07-228 SPECIAL WELDING AND HS BOLTING INSPECTION Same day request for AWS/CWI special welding and HS bolting inspection. Arrived at the site 1220 hours. Reviewed drawing details and notes for Building 2,mezzanine decking welds. Deck to be welded at ends, 3 welds per sheet,end laps, 3 welds per sheet, side laps to be welded at each support(16"C to Q. 5/8 diameter puddle(spot)welds. VT inspected column anchor bolts and installed and tensioned A325 bolts,3 main frames, 1 end frame,portal beams and HSS struts. Inspection of bolts within GLs P-Lxl-4(low roof area). Findings: 1.. Weld washers to be used to make spot welds if deck is LESS than .028 thick. Deck measured .029 thick,weld washers an option. 2. Noted several spot welds NOT ACCEPTABLE,poor fusion,not filled,undersize. Advised foreman and welders. Deck welding approximately 10%completed. Deck within GLs G.2-Kx2-4. 3. Welders NOT certified'for deck welding, SMAW,E6010 electrodes. 4. Administered job site performance test per AWS D1.3,welding deck to underlying plate,twist off deck sheet(3 tests per welder). Two welders tested, Charles Escoffon, Ron Gallagher. Both welders passed performance test for this application only. 5. Repair all unacceptable welds, complete deck welding per detail and AWS D1.3. 6. Observed deck welding in progress, appears OK. 7. VT inspected installed and tensioned HS A325 bolts, low roof area Building 2, GLs P-Lxl-4. Turn of the Nut method previousiy demonstrated and iested with Ski'rmore-vJiinelrn'unit by 'Kazan inspector. Inspected bolts Match Marked for rotation, 1/3 turn beyond snug tight condition. Bolts appear acceptable per Behlen specifications and RCSC. Column anchor bolts snug tight-OK. Deck to be welded at ends, 3 welds per sheet, end laps, 3 welds per sheet, side laps to be welded at each support (16"C to Q. 5/8 diameter puddle (spot) welds. VT inspected column anchor bolts and installed and tensioned A325 bolts, 3 main frames, I end frame, portal beams and HSS struts. Inspection of bolts within GLs P-Lxl-4 (low roof area). Findings: 1. Weld washers to be used to make spot welds if deck is LESS than .028 thick. Deck measured .029 thick, weld washers an option. 2. Noted several spot welds NOT ACCEPTABLE, poor fusion, not filled, undersize. Advised foreman and welders. Deck welding approximately 10% completed. Deck within GLs G.2-Kx2-4. 3. Welders NOT certified for deck welding, SMAW, E6010 electrodes. 4. Administered job site performance test per AWS D1.3, welding deck to underlying plate, twist off deck sheet(3 tests per welder). Two welders tested, Charles Escoffon, Ron Gallagher. Both welders passed performance test for this application only. 5. Repair all unacceptable welds, complete deck welding per detail and AWS D1.3. 6. Observed deck welding in progress, appears OK. 7. VT inspected installed and tensioned HS A325 bolts, low roof area Building 2, GLs P-Lxl-4. Tum of the Nut method previousiy demonstrated and tested with Skidmore-Wiiiielrn unit by Krazan inspector. Inspected bolts Match Marked for rotation, 1/3 turn beyond snug tight condition. Bolts appear acceptable per Behlen specifications and RCSC.
