The proposal is to drive re-bar into the ground and connect the comers of the mini-storage units to the re-bar. The Force it takes to extract the re-bar out of the ground is equal to the Up Lift Resistance of the soil surrounding the re-bar, therefore: The soils UP LIFT RESISTANCE is the calculated total weight of soil of a blunt cone surrounding the re-bar. The length of re-bar in the ground has a direct effect on the volume of the blunt cone and the weight of the soil in the cone and, therefore, the Up Lift Resistance. Geotechnical Testing Lab performed the field and lab test. Soil borings were taken on 6/20/01 Soils samples were taken Blow-counts were also taken The results of these tests were: Weight of soil pounds per cubic foot = 130 lbs. Internal angle of soil = 25 degrees APPROVED Tangent angle of the soil = 0.466 The proposed anchor at each corner will be a reinforcing p rod 1 inch in diam driven = H = 3.25 ft into the gr6Ur1 ON BUILDING INSPECTOR RGES SUBJECT TO APPROVAL DATE ` IF '# Up Lift Resistance W= 1/3 x(weight of soil)x (length of rod (H)in ground)x(Al+A2+ ((AlxA2)^0.5)) In order to calculate the total weight, the diameter and then the areas PPER DIAM. = D1 of the top and bottom of the cone must be determined. D2 = the blunt cone at the end of the rod furthest in the ground has a diam. of 1 ft D1 = is the cone diam. at the surface of the ground.
