Dear Ms Wetzel:
Thank you for submitting an application to the Mason County Planning Department for the
proposed work on your parcel. Staff has reviewed your application to re-fill an open hole that has
washed out on the landward side of your bulkhead. No County Permits are needed for the
proposal at this time. This letter will act as county authorization to proceed with filling the hole
from the upland side.
You had asked if a Hydraulic Project Approval would be required from the State Dept of Fish&
Wildlife. Although that decision is up to the Habitat Biologist for the State, Margie Schirato, it is
my understanding that the Washington State Dept of Fish and Wildlife would not require a
Hydraulic Project Approval because no work is proposed on the beach and all the work is to
occur on the landward side of the bulkhead. I am copying this letter to Margie with the photos
that you submitted, so that she is aware of your question. Margie Schirato's phone number is:

They asked me if they can fill in this hole and they dont need any county permits. The contractor is concerned
that he may be stopped by WDFW enf if they receive a complaint while he has his machinery out there.
Hopefully this is enough information for you. Please let me know what you think and them us know if I am
wrong about the HPA.Thanks.
