The person signing this condition is either the homeowner, agent for the owner or a registered contractor according to WA state law. The installation of solar(thermal or photovoltaic)energy systems to provide space heating or cooling, hot water and swimming pool heating shall conform to Chapter 23 of the International Residential Code, Chapter 14 of the International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, the International Fire Code, and be shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL1703. Roof mounted panels shall weigh no more than 4 Ibs per square foot. Supports for solar panels are to be installed to spread the dead load across as many roof-framing members as needed to ensure that no point loads in excess of 50-Ibs are created. Panels may be installed on roof assemblies with a single layer of roofing material. Roof assemblies with more than one roofing material layer shall require an engineered analysis demonstrating that the roof will support the additional load of the solar panel system. Attachment to the roof shall be in accordance with manufacturer specifications provided during the inspection by the Mason County Building Inspector. Roof mounted equipment shall comply with the International Fire Code Section 605.11, including signage and access pathways. Roof access points shall not be located in areas where access ladders would block window or doors openings. Not less than two-3-foot wide access pathways shall be provided from the eave to ridge. Ground-mounted panels and modules, installation must be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and be available at time of inspection. Inverters shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 1741. Systems connected to the utility grid shall use invertors listed for the utility interaction Collectors and thermal storage units shall be listed and labeled to show manufacturer's name, model number, serial number, collector weight, collector maximum allowable temperatures and pressures, and the type of heat transfer fluids that are compatible with the collector. Connections to potable water supplies shall be provided with backflow protection in accordance with the Uniform Plumbing Code. Solar energy systems containing pressurized fluids shall be protected with a temperature and pressure relief valve and be protected from freeze damage. Systems shall be equipped with means to limit the maximum water temperature of the system fluid entering or exchanging heat with any pressurized vessel inside the dwelling to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Solar energy collectors, controls, dampers, fans, blowers and pumps shall be accessible for inspection, maintenance, repair and replacement. The roof shall be constructed to support the loads imposed by roof-mounted solar collectors and shall be constructed of noncombustible materials, flashed and sealed to prevent entry of water, rodents, and insects. The building inspector may require additional information, including an engineered design, to verify that existing roof or floor construction are adequate to support the additional load of the solar energy equipment. When required provide an engineered design for inspection. All construction must meet or exceed all local and state ordinances in addition to the International Codes requirements as adopted and amended by Mason County and the State of Washington. Occupancy is limited to the approved and permitted classification. Any non-approved change of use or occupancy would result in permit revocation. Not just the worst storms in years, but the worst storms in 40 years. High winds capable of \ ripping panels from a roof, and snowfalls weighing enough to buckle a panel frame. XR Rails are the structural backbone preventing these results. They resist uplift, protect against buckling and safely and efficiently transfer loads into the building structure. Their superior spanning capability 0114- requires fewer roof attachments, reducing the number of roof penetrations and the amount of installation time. g, Force-Stabilizing Curve Sloped roofs generate both vertical and lateral forces on mounting rails which can cause them to bend and twist. The curved shape of XR Rails is specially designed to increase strength in both directions while resisting the twisting. This unique feature ensures greater security during extreme weather and a longer system lifetime. All system types that feature the UFO family—Flush Mount, Tilt Mount and Ground Mount—are fully listed to the UL 2703 standard. UFO hardware forms secure electrical bonds with both the module and the rail, resulting in many parallel grounding paths throughout the system. This leads to safer and more reliable installations. Burning Brand Test IronRidge Certification IronRidge was the first company to receive a Class A Fire Rating—the highest possible rating—from Intertek Group plc., a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. A burning wooden block is placed on module as a fan blows at 12 mph. IronRidge Flush Mount and Tilt Mount Flame cannot be seen on underside of roof within 90 minutes. Systems were tested on sloped and flat roofs in accordance with the new UL 1703 Spread of Flame Test & UL 2703 test standards. The testing 2000 evaluated the system's ability to resist 9 flame spread, burning material and structural damage to the roof. Refer to the table below to determine the requirements for achieving a Class A Fire Rating on your next project. Frequently Asked Questions What is a "module type"? What attachments and flashings are deemed compatible with Class A? The new UL1703 standard introduces the concept of a PV module type, based on 4 construction parameters Attachments and their respective flashings are not and 2 fire performance parameters. The purpose of constituents of the rating at this time. All code-compliant this classification is to certify mounting systems without flashing methods are acceptable from a fire rating needing to test it with every module. standpoint. What roofing materials are covered? What mounting height is acceptable? All fire rated roofing materials are covered within this UL fire testing was performed with a gap of 5", which is certification including composition shingle, clay and considered worst case in the standard. Therefore, the cement tile, metal, and membrane roofs. rating is applicable to any module to roof gap. What if I have a Class C roof, but the jurisdiction Am I required to install skirting to meet the fire now requires Class A or B? code? Generally, older roofs will typically be "grandfathered No, IronRidge achieved a Class A fire rating without any in", and will not require re-roofing. However, if 50%or additional racking components. more of the roofing material is replaced for the solar installation the code requirement will be enforced. What determines Fire Classification? Where is the new fire rating requirement code listed? Fire Classification refers to a fire-resistance rating system for roof covering materials based on their ability 2012 IBC: 1509.7.2 Fire classification. Rooftop to withstand fire exposure. mounted photovoltaic systems shall have the same fire classification as the roof assembly required by Section Class A-effective against severe fire exposure 1505. Class B -effective against moderate fire exposure Class C-effective against light fire exposure Where is a Class A Fire Rating required? What if the roof covering is not Class A rated? The general requirement for roofing systems in the IBC refers to a Class C fire rating. Class A or B is required for The IronRidge Class A rating will not diminish the fire areas such as Wildland Urban Interface areas(WUI) and rating of the roof, whether Class A, B, or C. for very high fire severity areas. Many of these areas are found throughout the western United States.California What tilts is the tilt mount system fire rated for? has the most Class A and B roof fire rating requirements, due to wild fire concerns. The tilt mount system is rated for 1 degrees and up and any roof to module gap, or mounting height. Are standard mid clamps covered? Mid clamps and end clamps are considered part of the PV"system", and are covered in the certification.
