Re: Vineyard Cove Water System
Dear Fire Marshal:
This letter is to inform you that the Vineyard Cove Water System,an existing TNC Group A Water
System, located on the south tip of Stretch Island serves 28 connections and seeks approval from the
WSDOH to serve 31 connections. There will be no extensions to the water mains and no change in service
area.
The water system currently has inadequate capacity to serve the existing 28 connections. They therefore
propose to install a 6,100-gallon plastic reservoir to meet domestic needs. The existing water lines are 4-
inch PVC.
Because the system is not adding water lines and is not changing thew service area,it is our understanding
of the interim fireflow guidance that fireflow is not required.
The water system's mains have a useful life remaining approximately as long as the reservoir is anticipated
to last. Therefore, the community has chosen not to size their reservoir for fireflow at this time because the
water lines would be incapable of providing the flow necessary to meet minimum fireflow standards. Upon
replacement of the reservoir and distribution system, the community will revisit the need and desire for
fireflow protection.
If our interpretation of the interim guidance is in error, please respond in writing by January 31,2011 to our
office as well as directly to the WSDOH. If our interpretation is correct,no response is necessary.
Should you have any questions,or require further information, please call Northwest Water Systems
manager of the water system(360)876-0958.
Sincerely
NORTHWEST WATER SYSTEMS,INC.
