This letter is prepared in response to a site pre-inspection request SPI2015-00014 submitted on
February 23, 2015, so that site observations are included in the records of two parcels (Parcel
No. 12206-31-00030 and -00040).
On Friday November 7, 2014, I met John Dennehy (arborist and tree care specialist) and made
a site inspection to 19001 E State Route 106 Belfair WA. At the inspection we discuss the
removal of a few trees (now dead big-leaf maples and douglas fir) that could fall and cause
damage; and the limbing up of several trees on the properties. The trees to be removed are at
the top of the driveway (on lot -00030) and near the bulkhead (on lot -00040). I noted the
location of the two trees in proximity of the shoreline bulkhead and the need to trim or remove
vines along the shoreline on lot-00030 near the house.
I understand the scope of the height and lean of these mature trees, the careful cutting and
removal of the noted trees close to the shore, and their location close to improvements
(bulkhead and bank) that concerns you. You should plant three trees for replacement of those
removed in the immediate area of tree cutting and trimming in the shoreline buffer; select
native species (like red cedar, vine maple, Oregon ash, or Douglas fir); and note that the trees
should not obstruct views along the shoreline from neighboring properties; small clusters of
trees rather than a straight alignment Af trees is the recommended action for replanting near
the buffer of Hood Canal. The Mason Conservation District has these native plant species
available for purchase and planting.
You may proceed with your proposed danger tree removal and vine trimming on these parcels
per Mason County Resource Ordinance standards, and provide needed care from damage to
existing improvements and adjacent upland vegetation. You may contact me for further
information.
