We have the available water connections and available water rights, but the water main serving this area is undersized. The applicant would have to replace the entire main from Cedar Street and update the Water System Plan to include his two parcels and hydraulically model the water system to determine if additional improvements would be required to serve his two parcels. The cost is prohibitive compared to drilling two exempt wells and the timing is such that the water system plan approval then construction to replace the existing water main is approximately three years, or more, which is not timely. If Mason PUD 1 cannot provide water in a timely and reasonable fashion, then we cannot deny a property owner the opportunity to drill an exempt well to serve their property. It is up Ecology if they will allow exempt wells to be drilled. Sincerely, Jocelyne Gray, PE Director of Operations-Water Mason County PUD No. 1 21971 N.
