Jason Zack PROJECT DESCRIPTION & SIZE: New facility including 3 structures used for office, warehouse and equipment storage, and a covered parking area. The following information is essential to perform a plan review by the Fire Marshal's office. Proposed construction plans and documents should include all applicable information listed below. Please note that the Fire Marshal representative has made every attempt to identify all critical information that will be needed based upon the information provided in the pre-application documents. Additional information may be necessary when the Fire Marshal is presented with proposed plans for the project. The information provided below references the current adopted codes. A complete list is provided at the end of this document. • OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION & USE : Identify the occupancy classification(s) and specify use as defined and specified in accordance to the current International Building Code (IBC), Chapter 3 and International Fire Code (IFC), Chapter 2. • CONSTRUCTION TYPE: Referencing IBC, Chapter 6 clearly identify the type of construction. • WATER SUPPLY& FIRE HYDRANT: Referencing IFC, Section 508; clearly identify intended code compliance, including type of water supply. • FIRE FLOW: A copy of the approved method for determining fire flow is enclosed. Please provide a copy of the completed worksheet with proposed construction documents. • EMERGENCY VEHICLE ACCESS: A copy of the "Standards for Fire Apparatus Access Roads" adopted through Mason County Building Code, Section 14.17 is attached. Verify that documents clearly identify code compliance. • ADDRESSING: Referencing IFC, Section 505 and Mason County Code Chapter 14.28, all new buildings shall have an approved address. Each building within the facility shall be distinguished with a separate identification so that emergency personnel can find the building in the event of an emergency. • EXITS: Verify that construction plans comply with IBC and IFC Chapter 10. Provide a code evaluation that includes calculations demonstrating compliance to Section 1004. Construction plans must clearly identify all exits, exit paths, length, signage information, etc. • AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM: Based upon information provided an automatic monitored fire alarm shall be required. The alarm system shall comply with IFC, Section 907 and NFPA 72. Provide information on construction plans demonstrating intent to comply. Note that automatic fire alarm systems shall require a separate"Mason County Fire Protection System Permit Application". The application can be obtained by going to same website and page referenced above. • SPRINKLER SYSTEM: When fire flow is not available, when fire areas exceed 6000 sq. ft each structure shall be provided with an automatic fire sprinkler system. When required, or proposed, provide information demonstrating compliance IFC, Section 903 and NFPA 13. Note that automatic fire sprinkler systems shall require a separate"Mason County Fire Protection System Permit Application". The application can be obtained by going to same website and page referenced above. • FIXED FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM: Referencing IFC, Sections 904 and 905, provide information as needed on construction plans demonstrating compliance. Note that fire suppression systems shall require a separate"Mason County Fire Protection System Permit Application". Standpipe systems, where required, need to be clearly identified on construction plans. • KNOX BOX: Referencing IFC, Section 506, access shall be required, typically through use of a knox box. Provide compliance information with construction documents. On plans, include design calculations for the following: water closets (M/F), Lavatories, Drinking Fountains, etc. Referencing IBC/WAC 2902.2 separate plumbing fixtures shall be required for each sex, except when the calculated occupancy load is 15 or less, then unisex fixtures shall be allowed. To calculate the number of fixtures and referencing Table 2902.1 the following fixtures shall be required: Offices: 1 water closet per 25 for the first 50 and 1 per 50 for the remainder exceeding 50. 1 lavatory per 40 for the first 80. Provide design calculations demonstrating how the fixture count was determined on construction plans. • NON-RESIDENTIAL ENERGY CODE: ALL enclosed spaces require Non-Residential Energy Conservation Code (IECC/WSEC). Provide completed compliance forms (envelope & mechanical).
