It is not used for camp activities so flows are standard for residential occupancy. Lodge The lodge is capable of housing events, gatherings and overnight guests in a dormitory-type environment with common kitchen,bathrooms,& showers. Lodge events are mostly day use, but occasional gatherings and group-camps bring people into the lodge for up to a week at a time. These 'max' events only occur a few tunes per year almost solely in the summertime as week- long youth church camps,etc. The lodge can accommodate up(o 25)Iieople in its dormitory-style arrangement. USEPA 2002 OWTSM shows flows from a facr ' such as this can range from 20-50gpc. In this use,I would put the flow estimate on the low end of this range—around 500gpd for 25 people. Additionally, this type of'max' flow impact only occurs a few times per year. This means the wastewater system has ample time to rest with little to no inflows for extended periods of time between 'max' events. The lodge is estimated currently to be in use only an average of 90-120 days per year.This includes both minimal day-use events and 'max' events. This means the system has a built-in rest cycle of roughly two-thirds of the time.This system could accommodate double the number of events and still have a one-third rest period—considerably better than a typical residential system receives. Recreational Restroom The Recreational restroom is located near ball-fields and is built to accommodate up to 240gpd. This bathroom is only used occasionally by camp-goers using the outdoor recreational areas which is limited to occasional, small,mostly stanmer-time events.USEPA OWTSM estimates a restroom like this to have a use range of 24gpc. Again,due to the limited facilty,type, I'd estimate this on the low end as 2gpc.This means 120+persons a day would have to use the system to exceed design capacity. A more likely 'max' range would be 20-30 persons/day and only for short,temporary events. As long as there are no stuck toilets or broken fixtures,the recreational restroom system should never be expected to receive anywhere near the design flow. This will be offset due to the fact that day-use events won't be anywhere near system capacity • `max' use waste strength will look like residential strength due to typical patterns of bathroom,kitchen, laundry use. `Max' events will be at or below system capacity of 600gpd. Recreational Restroom • day-use waste strength is expected to be slightly concentrated. This will be offset due to the fact that even 'max' use should be at only about 25%of system capacity with likely a 80-900%system off-line time due to low use most of the time. RECOMMENDATIONS This system has been pumped and inspected in December of 2012.As a business operation, I would suggest having the system inspected by a Monitoring and Maintenance company annually to ensure components are working properly,etc. Pumping should only be conducted when solids accumulation makes it necessary which will vary with each system and with use patterns. For this site,given fluctuating patterns and 3 differently used systems, there is no one-size-fits-all recommendation on pumping. You could pump the system annually at a cost of maybe$1200. Or,you could have the system inspected annually for a third that cost and only pump when necessary,potentially saving a lot over the long term. The main key is to inspect to detect problems before they are serious.
