Vuecrest Dr. Union, WA 98592 December 28,2023 Mason County Department of Health Services 415 N 6th St Shelton, WA 98584 RE: Leo Echaniz Property(Parcel#22015-75-90073) Septic Replacement/Upgrade Dear Inspector: Attached is a repair/upgrade septic design for a property located on Harstine Island at 91 E Heron Cove, Shelton, WA 98584. The existing septic was installed in 1984. The original septic system consisted of a 1,200- gallon 2-compartment septic tank,a small pump chamber, and 183 If.(549 s.f)of drainfield. A 9'x 23' sand filter was added in 1996 to enhance the treatment level when the home was built. At a recent service, it was discovered that the sand filter is clogged and is ponding.(See report attached.) The sand-filter is to be decommissioned or removed and a NuWater BNR-500 plus a 1,000 gallon pump chamber are to be added. The NuWater provides Treatment Level B, similar to the sand-filter. The existing 1,200 gallon septic tank may stay as a pre-trash tank if the installer finds it to be in acceptable condition. This upgrade also includes adding a new main control panel with a timer,elapse meter and event counter. The new tanks are over 50' to surface water and all septic components are over 100' away from the shared community well.
