REWARD FOR SIGN VANDALISM
WHEREAS, on July 24, 1978, the Board of Mason County Commissioners approved
Resolution No. 908 creating Chapter 9.28 of the Mason County Code, which offered
a reward for information or testimony leading to the arrest and conviction of
any persons committing the offense of sign vandalism against county property.
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of Mason County to erect and maintain
upon the county roads such suitable and proper signs, signals, signboards, and
guideposts and appropriate stop, caution, warning, restrictive and directional
signs and markings as it deems necessary or may be required by law, according
to RCW 36.86.040; and,
WHEREAS, Mason County has experienced considerable vandalism to these
county properties, and,
WHEREAS, such vandalism is a criminal offense, according to Title 9A,
Washington Criminal Code, 9A.48.O70 through 9A.48.090, and in accordance with
RCW 10.85.030, the Board of County Commissioners is authorized to offer and pay
a suitable reward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a reward shall be paid to any person
or persons who shall furnish information or testimony leading to the arrest and
conviction of any person of any offense against such county property, including
but not limited to those offenses set forth in RCW 9A.48.O7O through 9A.48.090,
whether or not the offense be a felony, gross misdemeanor, or misdemeanor. The
amount of such reward is hereby set at Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00). No
more than one $250.00 reward will be allowed for any one case. In cases of more
than one person providing sufficient information to result in the arrest and
conviction of any person or persons for acts of vandalism against County
property, the reward will be apportioned as the Board of Mason County Commis-
sioners deems appropriate. Funds for payment of rewards will be provided by the
Mason County Department of Public Works.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of Mason County
Commissioners that Chapter 9.28 of the Mason County Code be and the same hereby
is amended to conform to the language contained herein and the adoption of this
resolution shall supersede and nullify Resolution No. 908 in its entirety.
