Hunter with Board Member Faughender in attendance. ATTENDANCE: William O. Hunter, Chairperson Mary L. Faughender, Board Member Dr. Mark E. Trucksess, Health Officer Brad Banner, Health Services Director Steve Kutz, Personal Health Director Brent Long, Board of Health Clerk APPROVAL OF MINUTES Delayed until next meeting. HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT Dr. Mark E. Trucksess, Health Officer, reported there have been five more cases of Hepatitis A in June. All but one were IV drug users. One was also positive for Hepatitis C. There were three other Hepatitis C cases not associated with the Hepatitis A case. Fifteen more doses of Hepatitis A immunoglobulin were given. There is a short supply of the immunoglobulin, and the Health Department's request for an additional supply has been placed on back -order. A suspected case of measles in Mason County turned out to be the Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Clark and Cowlitz Counties have not reported any new cases of measles since June 2, 1996. The measles outbreak was officially declared over on June 30, 1996. There was a total of 43 cases. Half of those cases were in adults. In North Carolina an outbreak of Rubella (Three -Day Measles) has been experienced, primarily in Hispanic migrant workers. Rubella is dangerous because it can cause serious birth defects. Information was distributed to the Board on the topic of Methyl Mercury in Puget Sound. The largest deposits of Methyl Mercury have been found in Kitsap County waterways. Another case of the Hanta Virus has been confirmed in a Snohomish County woman who died of the disease in March, 1996. There have now been seven confirmed cases in the State of Washington during the last 12 months. MASON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH July 11, 1996 - Page 2 of 2 State figures indicate the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Mason County remains at 39. Twenty- nine of those are presumed living. A de -briefing session was held on June 25, 1996, to discuss how the Health Department handled the recent Hepatitis outbreak in the Belfair area. A procedure booklet will be created outlining the proper steps to handle future situations. MEETING ADJOURNED Board Member Faughender/Chairperson Hunter moved/seconded that the Board of Health meeting be adjourned at 10:21 a.m. Motion carried unanimously.
