ANNUAL COMMUNICABLE DISEASE REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2000 —
Dr. Trucksess gave a report from the Annual Communicable Disease Report For The Year 2000,
King County was first with 13.8 for every 100,000 people. It was followed by Mason County
with 12.4 for every 100,000 people - this could be due to AIDS in the Correction Center
population. Of the 478 AIDS cases reported 402 were among males, 84%; 76 were among
female which is 16%. The majority were male to male sexual contact 54%; drug use 11% of the
cases. Steve Kutz reported that there was 1 case reported in Mason County and most of the
cases come from somewhere else. Follow up is very difficult due to the moving of the individuals
back to where they came from originally. There were four cases of Botulism reported in infants
due to use of raw honey in the formula. Chlamydia is mainly found in women.

Many of the vaccine producers have not been producing the vaccines on a regular schedule due to
it not being as profitable. Mason County goes through a Minnesota Health Department contract
which gets their vaccines from a producer who produces the vaccine according to the number of
orders received.
