Everyone was asked to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES — HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT by Dr. Mark Trucksess Month of September: 1 case of Campylobacter 1 case of Giardia 1 case of Rabbis prevention treatment 1 case of Pertussis 2 cases of exposure to Tuberculosis 4 cases started on latent therapy for Tuberculosis 3 cases of active Tuberculosis on therapy MASON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH COMMISSIONER'S CHAMBERS MONTHLY MEETING OCTOBER 18, 2001 PAGE 2OF3 For the year: Month of October: 8 cases of Campylobacter 5 cases of Giardia 9 cases of Rabbis prevention treatment 1 case of Pertussis 17 cases of latent therapy for Tuberculosis 1 case of Tularemia 1 case of Strephtocococal Meningitis 1 case of suspected Pulmonary Anthrax - probably isn't HIV Testing for Mason county - 11 tested, no positives. ANTHRAX REPORT: Anthrax is a bacillus that is rod shaped that are inactive until they are in the right conditions. Transmission is usually from and animal to a human, which usually affects the skin. It has a black scab and in rare cases spills over into the blood, which is fatal. Incubation period is 1 to 5 days and may be as long as 60 days. It is characterized by flu -like symptoms. Acute stage is usually 1 to 5 days after initial symptoms. This maybe preceded by 1 to 3 days of improvement and is characterized by abrupt development of severe respiratory disease. Shock and death usually occur with in 3 days from the initial phase. Brochure enclosed for further in depth information. BIO-TERRORISM: Eboli is another bio-terrorism weapoll. 16 also begins will flu iike syptoius. it was flist found in 1976 in Zihare, South Africa. There have been 3 outbreaks of Eboli in Africa. It is spread person to person - from blood, clothing, and sexual contact for 3 months. Public Health has stockpiled pharmaceutical supplies. Push packages can be prepared in 12 hours from these supplies and sent to where needed. The Department of Health is managing the stockpile in Washington State. The Health Department asked the Govenor for the Push packages. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ISSUES — WAIVERS/VARIANCES - Presented to the Board by Debbie Riley. OTHER — Dutch Allen asked how to get meth labs out of an area and cleaned up. She was referred to a private meeting with the Commissioner's.
