This report consisted of four cases of Chronic Hepatitis C; two cases of Hepatitis B&C; one Positive PPD, and started on latent Anti -Tuberculosis therapy. The STD case report for November consisted of six cases of Chlamydia and two cases of Herpes Simplex Virus. Dr. Trucksess stated that he received notification from the state health department that they are beginning to start stage one of the Smallpox Vaccination Plan. Steve Kutz will be giving a PowerPoint presentation following Dr. Trucksess' report. Stage one will include public health workers as first responders, and developed teams such as rapid assessment teams, mobile teams, vaccination clinic teams and health care workers that provide screening for patients. The simultaneous administration of smallpox vaccine with other vaccines will still need to be addressed. Initially the vaccine is only for the stage one group identified as the vaccination teams. AICP has recommended who should be included in the first stages of the pre -event smallpox vaccination program. The hospital will need to have a functioning airborne infection isolation room ready in case of an event. Identify a group of health care workers to be vaccinated and trained, this would include emergency room staff, intensive care unit staff including physicians and nurses, general medical staff, infectious disease specialists, control specialists and respiratory therapist, radiology technicians, security and housekeeping staff. UPDATE ON SMALLPDX PLANNING: Steve Kutz Health Department Director presented a PowerPoint presentation for the planning of smallpox vaccination. Steve has received a request from the Department of Health through the federal government from the CDC. There are three teams to be identified. Hospital teams and rapid response teams, this would include staff from the Department of Health, which would respond to a potential case of smallpox. Epidemiology teams would identify and interview for contacts to isolate and quarantine and treat with vaccine. The third team is a vaccination team. The Department of Health was required to have the teams identified and submitted by the close of business December 4, 2002. The task was completed. This will identify how many doses of smallpox vaccine the Department of Health will receive. President Bush will make a decision on the actual plan and how intense the vaccination process will be and who will be first to be vaccinated. Each vile received will have 100 doses. Based on the Bio-Terrorist Plan, smallpox has been moved to the foremost of importance. If the general public needs to be vaccinated here, approximately 12 teams would need to be ready to respond. Smallpox is a virus and the teams would have 10 days to vaccinate everyone. The complete PowerPoint presentation is on file with Steve at the Health Department.
