Chairperson Bob Holier asked that everyone stand for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. ATTENDANCE: CORRESPONDENCE: APPROVAL OF MINUTES: ADMINISI'RATIVE ISSUES — HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT: Bob Holter, Chairperson Herb Baze, Board Member Wes Johnson, Board Member Dr. Mark Trucksess, Health Officer Steve Kutz, Health Department Director Debbie Riley, Environmental Health Director Mary Duncan, Reporter, Mason County Journal Nancy Plews, Board Clerk Sonja Rau, Transcriptionist None. Wes Johnson moved to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 7, 2002. Herb Baze seconded. Holter, Aye; Baze, Aye; Johnson, Aye. Communicable Disease Report for March, 2002. 1 case of Giardia 1 case of Salmonella MASON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH COMMISSIONER'S CHAMBERS MONTHLY MEETING APRIL 4, 2002 PAGE 2 OF 4 1 case of Hepatitis A 2 cases Chronic Hepatitis B No report from the Correction Center. 6 new cases of PPD conversions 5 started on latent therapy Sexually Transmitted Disease Report January - 13 cases of Chlamydia 1 case of HSV February - 7 cases Chlamydia 1 case HSV March - 8 cases of Chlamydia 0 cases HSV Fourth Quarter Testing for HIV 18 tested and no positives King County and Skagit County reported Campylobactor due to attendants on a cruise ship. Pertussis/Whooping Cough reported at Swedish Medical Center. Whooping cough seems to be on the rise. Drug and Food Administration is permitting 209,000 Anthrax vaccine to be given to the U.S. Military. Bio-Port Company has repaired their problems in production and can now provide the vaccine. A Doctor from Paris, France has found there maybe a connection in flu vaccine lowering the risk of stroke in people 60 to 75 years of age. It has been found that Kava, contained in dietary supplements, has caused liver related injuries in Europe: Canada, France, and the United Kingdom. It has been reported that people have under gone liver transplants related to Kava. Tularemia in the United States - 1990 - 2000 1,360 cases of Tularemia from 44 States. Tularemia is acquired from tick bites or from contact with infected animals. FDA Alert: Sterile devices manufactured by A&A Medical of Georgia were reported to have been sterilized, but had not undergone sterilization. Mad Cow Disease - More than 180,000 cases reported in Europe since 1986, when it was first reported. Creutzfeldt-Yacob Disease is just like Mad Cow disease, but is found in humans. Average age in Europe, is 28 years of age, for those who had contacted the Creutzfeldt-Yacob Disease. It is believed it is transmitted from eating beef. PROCLAMATION: A Proclamation was presented to the Board by Steve Kutz to proclaim April 2 - 8, 2002 as Health Week and April as Health Month. Herb Baze moved to proclaim April 2-8, 2002 as Health Week and April as Health Month so people can take greater responsibility for their health and their neighbors health, and take preventative measures and make cost effective choices about their health and participate in public health issues. The motion was seconded by Wes Johnson. Holter, Aye; Baze, Aye; Johnson, Aye. PERSONAL HEALTH - None. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH - Debbie Riley, Director of Environmental Health brought before the Board of Health changes to the On -Site Sewage Regulations. Changes are enclosed in packet. Wes Johnson moved that the Board of Health would adopt the following changes to the On -Site Sewage Regulations - which can be found in the packet. Herb Baze seconded the motion. Holter, Aye; Baze, Aye; Johnson, Aye. Steve Kutz presented the Waivers and Variances. The meeting was adjourned at 10:23 a.m..
