November 14, 2006
Attendance: Board Members Lynda Ring -Erickson; Jayni Kamin; Tim Sheldon.
1. Commissioner Tim Sheldon called the meeting to order at 10:32 a.m.
2. Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Kamin moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion
carried unanimously. S-aye; K-aye; RE -aye.
3. Correspondence
3.1 Department of Health, Maryanne Guichard — Office of Shellfish and Water Protection is
reclassifying a portion of Oakland Bay commercial shellfish growing area in Mason County from
Conditionally Approved to Restricted.
4. Cmmr. Kamin/Ring Erickson moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of October
5, 2006 as presented. Motion carried unanimously. S-aye; K-aye; RE -aye
5. Administrative Issues
5.1 Health Officer's Report — Dr. Yu presented the current health issues relevant to Mason County
including information about the lack of influenza reported in our area, the vaccine clinics
available, and the West Nile Virus (WNV) is coming to an end. There were a number of WNV
cases reported in horses and human, none of them very serious. Next year will be a critical year
for people with livestock to have their animals vaccinated for the WNV.
5.2 Dr. Yu deferred the update to the Board in regards to the Health Department Full Scale Exercise
because the information is still being gathered and compiled. The report is not completed.
5.3 Mrs. Lydia Buchheit, interim Personal Health Manager, presented the Personal Health 2007 Fee
Schedule. She noted the fees that were not charged to the public were removed from the list as it
is not pertinent to add to the list. The Hearing was held on October 5, 2006. There was no public
comment and the hearing was closed.
Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Kamin moved and seconded to adopt Resolution No. 03-06 as the
2007 Mason County Department of Health Services Fee Schedule, effective January 1, 2007.
Motion carried unanimously. S-aye; K-aye; RE -aye.
5.4 Dr. Yu requested the Board consider changing the name of the Mason County Health Department
to Mason County Public Health Department or Mason County Health. Dr. Yu noted that she is
working with the staff to develop a department mission statement, one that represents all the work
the department does to serve the community.
Betty Wing suggested deferring the discussion until the next meeting, in order to do more research
on a proper name. She asked the commissioners to consider the name change.
Cmmr. Kamin stated that she would like to see that a name change take place so that it would
most accurately reflect the services that are offered.
Cmrnr. Ring Erickson suggested that a hearing be set to take public comment to help approve a
name change.
It was agreed that the topic would be addressed at the January 2007 meeting.

5.5 Dr. Yu requested the Board cancel the December 7, 2006 meeting. The next meeting will be
January 4, 2007.
6. Personal Health Issues
6.1 Ms. Lydia Buchheit, Interim Personal Health Depaitnient Manager, gave a flu immunization
update. 490 vaccines have been received and are ready for the clinics. Two clinics are being
offered today, one in Belfair and one in Hoodsport. The Mason County employees are being
offered a vaccine clinic on November 20, 2006. More vaccines have been shipped and are
expected to arrive by the end of the month.

7.1 Environmental Health Waivers/Variances were provided to the Board for information only.
