DECLARATION OF DISASTER AREA IN MASON COUNTY
WHEREAS, in Mason County on November 22, 23, 24 and 25, 1990, unusual weather
conditions consisting of extreme high tides, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and melting the
existing snowfall in the mountains caused a natural disaster by causing extensive flooding, in
many parts of Mason County and erosion, sloughing of banks and wind damage; and
WHEREAS, extensive damage has and is still occurring to County roads and bridges,
private lands, bulkheads, homes, farm lands and water supply systems; and
WHEREAS, the damage sustained November 22, 23, 24 and 25 of communities and
individuals is causing extensive efforts to assure safety of the people involved; and
WHEREAS, the estimated preliminary damage to roads and bridges has already reached
an estimated $265,000 and other significant private and public damages yet to be ascertained;
and
WHEREAS, the severity and magnitude of this disaster are beyond capability of local
resource, both public and private;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Mason County Commissioners
hereby declare Mason County a disaster area and request the Honorable Governor of this State
of Washington to issue a similar declaration and render all required and available assistance
vital to the security, well-being and health of the citizens of the State of Washington.
