WHEREAS, tourism development is extremely important to the economic diversification
of Mason County; and,
WHEREAS, public salt water access is vital to the community for their continued
enjoyment to the waters of Hood Canal; and,
WHEREAS, the Port of Hoodsport is striving to increase public access to Hood Canal
and provide new recreational opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, the Washington Department of Natural Resources has available grant funds
for land acquisition for increased public access from their Aquatic Land Enhancement
Account.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board of Mason County
Commissioners is in full support of the Hoodsport Port's application to the Department of
Natural Resources for $57,688.00 to acquire certain adjoining uplands and tidelands adjacent
to the Port's existing dock in Hoodsport for the purpose of increased public access to the waters
of Hood Canal.
