1. THE TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL SYSTEM SHALL BE
INSTALLED PRIOR TO ALL CONSTRUCTION.
2. WHERE POSSIBLE MAINTAIN NATURAL VEGETATION FOR
EROSION SILTATION CONTROL
3. AS CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES AND SEASONAL
CONDITIONS DICTATE, MORE SILTATION CONTROL FACILITIES
MAY BE REQUIRED TO ENSURE COMPLETE SILTATION
CONTROL THEREFORE DURING 7HE COURSE OF
CONSTRUCTION, IT SHALL BE THE OBLIGATION AND
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO ADDRESS ANY
NEW CONDITION THAT MAY BE CREATED AND TO PROVIDE
ADDITIONAL FACILITIES OVER AND ABOVE MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS AS MAY BE NEEDED TO ACHIEVE THE
PERFORMANCE STANDARD.
4. TEMPORARY SILTATION PONDS AND ALL TEMPORARY
SILTATION AND EROSION CONTROLS SHALL BE MAINTAINED
IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION UNTIL SUCH TIME THAT
CLEARING AND/OR CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED,
PERMANENT DRAINAGE FACILITIES ARE OPERATIONAL, AND
THE POTENTIAL FOR EROSION HAS PAS-5tU. CONTRACTOR
SHALL MAINTAIN A 24 HOUR CONTACT NUMBER FOR
EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO MAINTAIN AND REPAIR ALL
ONS►TE EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES
AND FACILITIES.
5. ALL DISTURBED LAND AREA UNWORKED FOR SEVEN (7)
DAY OR MORE SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM EROSION BY
HYRDROSEEDING WITH A MIX OR BY METHOD APPROVED BY
THE COUNTY. IF REQUIRED DUE TO WEATHER, TIME OR SITE
CONDITIONS, THE HYDROSEEDING SHALL BE SUPPLEMENTED
BY MULCHING WITH STRAW A MINIMUM OF 1-INCH THICK
AND STAPLING JUTE OR UTILITY MESH OVER THE MULCH.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PREVENTING
WATER POLLUTION DUE TO CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS,
METHODS, OR EQUIPMENT.
WET WEATHER EARTHWORK
1. ALL SITE GRADING SHALL BE PERFORMED BETWEEN MAY 1
AND OCTOBER 31 ALL GRADING SHALL BE COMPLETED TO
ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME OF RE -VEGETATION FOR EROSION
CONTROL BEFORE THE ONSET OF WET WEATHER, OCTOBER
31. IF GRADING BETWEEN OCT 31 AND MAY 1, WET
WEATHER EROSION PROVISIONS MUST BE OBSERVED.
2. EARTHWORK SHOULD BE PERFORMED IN SMALL AREAS TO
MINIMIZE EXPOSURE TO WET WEATHER. EXCAVATION AND
REMOVAL OF UNSUITABLE SOILS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED
PROMPTLY BY THE PLACEMENT AND COMPACTION OF CLEAN
ENGINEERED FILL THE SIZE AND TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION
EQUIPMENT MAY HAVE TO BE LIMITED TO PREVENT SOIL
DISTURBANCE UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCE IT MAY BE
NECESSARY TO EXCAVATE SOILS WITH A TRACKHOE TO
MINIMIZE SUBGRADE DISTURBANCE CAUSED BY EQUIPMENT
TRAFFIC.
3. THE GROUND SURFACE WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA
SHOULD BE GRADED TO PROMOTE RUN-OFF OF SURFACE
WATER AND TO PREVENT PONDING OF WATER.
4. MATERIAL USED AS ENGINEERED FILL SHALL SATISFY
SECTION 9-03.14(3) OF WSDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS
FOR ROAD, BRIDGE, AND MUNICIPAL CONSTRUCTION.
ENGINEERED FILL MATERIAL TO CONSIST OF GRANULAR OR
NONGRANULAR SOIL AND/OR AGGREGATE WHICH IS FREE
OF DELETERIOUS MATERIAL THE MATERIAL SHALL NOT
CONTAIN MORE THAN 3 PERCENT ORGANIC MATERIAL BY
WEIGHT. THE PLASTICITY INDEX SHALL BE DETERMINED
USING TEST METHOD AASHTO T 89 AND AASHTO T 90.
SOIL PLASTICITY TO SATISFY REQUIREMENTS USTED IN
ABOVE LISTED SECTION.
5. THE GROUND SURFACE WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA
SHOULD BE SEALED BY A SMOOTH DRUM VIBRATORORY
ROLLER, OR EQUIVALENT, AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
SHOULD BE LEFT UN -COMPACTED AND EXPOSED TO
MOISTURE SOIL WHICH BECOME TO WET FOR COMPACTION
SHOULD BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH CLEAN
GRANULAR MATERIALS
6. EXCAVATION AND PLACEMENT OF FILL SHALL BE OBSERVED
BY THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER TO VERIFY THAT ALL
UNSUITABLE MATERIALS ARE REMOVED AND SUITABLE
COMPACTION AND SITE DRAINAGE IS ACHIEVED.
7. STRAW WATTLES OR GEOTEXTILE SILT FENCE SHOULD BE
STRATEGICALLY LOCATED TO CONTROL EROSION.
GRADING NOTES
1. ADDITIONAL WORK WAS WAS DONE BY THE OWNER AND NO
LONGER MATCHES ORIGINAL SURVEY. THIS SOIL WILL
REQUIRE EXCAVATION DOWN TO ORIGINAL GRADE AND THEN
REPLACED WITH APPROVED ENGINEERED FILL AND
COMPACTED, SEE SHEET P3 FOR APPROXIMATE OUTLINE OF
ADDITIONAL WORK.
2. ALL WORK SHALL CONFORM TO CURRENT MASON COUNTY
STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS.
3. ALL AREAS TO BE GRADED SHALL BE CLEARED OF ALL
VEGETATION DURING THE STRIPPING OF THE ORGANIC TOP
SOIL LAYER.
4. ALL UNSUITABLE SOIL SUCH AS SOFT ORGANIC CLAY AND
SILTS MUST BE REMOVED TO REDUCE EMBANKMENT
SETTLEMENT.
5. ANY TREES THAT WILL BE REMOVED SHOULD BE
INDIVIDUALLY REMOVED, TAKING CARE TO REMOVE ALL
ROOTS. ROOT CAVITIES SHALL BE INDIVIDUALLY BACKFILLED
AND COMPACTED WITH COMPETENT ENGINEERED
STRUCTURAL FILL PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF FILL
OPERATIONS.
6. STRIPPED SURFACE SOIL SHALL BE STOCKPILED IN
DESIGNATED AREAS.
7. CUT AND FILL SLOPES SHALL NOT BE GREATER THAN 1
UNIT VERTICAL IN 2 UNITS HORIZONTAL (50Z).

ANY STATED CUT AND FILL QUANTITIES ARE
APPROXIMATE ONLY. THE CONTRACTOR IS ADVISED TO
DETERMINE THEIR OWN TAKEOFF AND QUANTITIES FOR
BIDDING. ACTUAL EARTHWORK QUANTITIES MAY VARY
DEPENDING ON CONTRACTORS METHOD OF OPERATION,
COMPACTION, SHRINKAGE, STRIPPING DEPTHS, AND
ACCURACY OF THE EARTHWORK TAKEOFF. WHEN SIGNING
THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT, THE CONTRACTOR
AGREES THAT THEIR COST FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE
GRADING IMPROVEMENTS AND DISPOSAL OF EXCESS
MATERIAL (IF NECESSARY), IS INCLUDED AND THERE WILL
BE NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THIS ITEM. THE
STRUCTURAL MATERIAL FOR THIS SITE IS INTENDED TO BE
APPROXIMATELY BALANCED. GRADING DESIGN IS BASED ON
THE SURVEY INFORMATION AND FINISH DESIGNED ROUGH
GRADING ELEVATIONS. ALL EXISTING INCLUSIONS OF
NON-STRUCTURAL OR ORGANIC SOILS AND STRIPPINGS
SHALL BE OVER -EXCAVATED AS NECESSARY TO
COMPETENT MATERIAL
10. PRIOR TO PLACING COMPACTED FILL AGAINST THE EXISTING
NATURAL SLOPES, ALL LOOSE UNDOCUMENTED FILL,
TOPSOIL AND SOFT SOILS MUST FIRST BE REMOVED.
11. IF SEEPS OR SPRINGS ARE ENCOUNTERED DURING SITE
GRADING, THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER SHALL MAKE
RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE FIELD FOR APPROPRIATE
SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE SUCH PROVISIONS WOULD LIKELY
CONSIST OF SUBSURFACE DRAINS OR 'FRENCH' DRAINS
COLLECTING SEEPAGE WATER AT THE SOURCE AND
DIRECTING IT IN A CONTROLLED FASHION TO THE STORM
DRAIN SYSTEM. LOCATIONS AND DETAILS TO BE APPROVED
BY THE COUNTY PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
12. A STABILIZED CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE WILL BE REQUIRED
AT THE ACCESS ROAD (LOCATE AS SHOWN ON THIS
SHEET). CONSTRUCT IN ACCORDANCE WITH BMP C105.
13. SITE PREPARATION, SOIL STRIPPING, AND GRADING SHALL
BE OBSERVED AND DOCUMENTED BY AN EXPERIENCED
GEOTECHINCAL ENGINEER OR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE
14. IF FILL PLACEMENT IS REQUIRED TO MODIFY SITE GRADES,
THE SURFACE AREA SHALL BE APPROPRIATELY PREPARED
AS DESCRIBED IN THE PRECEDING NOTES. SURFACE SOILS
SHOULD THEN BE SCARIFIED AND COMPACTED PRIOR TO
ADDITIONAL FILL PLACEMENT. ENGINEERED STRUCTURAL FILL

GRADING NOTES CONT
MOISTURE CONTENT SHALL BE WITHIN TWO PERCENTAGE
POINTS OF OPTIMUM CONDITIONS. A FIELD DENSITY AT
LEAST EQUAL TO 95 PERCENT OF MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY,
OBTAINED FROM MODIFIED PROCTOR MOISTURE DENSITY
RELATIONSHIP TEST (ASTM D1557), IS REQUIRED FOR
STRUCTURAL FILL PLACEMENT. FOR ENGINEERED
STRUCTURAL FILL PLACED ON SLOPE GRADES, THE AREA
SHALL BE BENCHED TO PROVIDE A HORIZONTAL SURFACE
FOR COMPACTION. PER DETAIL N, SHEET P9.
15. COMPACTION OF ENGINEERED STRUCTURAL FILL SHALL BE
VERIFIED BY NUCLEAR GAUGE FIELD COMPACTION TESTING
PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM D2922-91 AND
ASTM D3017-88 (93). FIELD COMPACTION TESTING SHALL
BE PERFORMED FOR EACH VERTICAL FOOT OF ENGINEERED
FILL PLACED. ENGINEERED FILL PLACEMENT SHALL BE
OBSERVED BY AN EXPERIENCED GEOTECHNNCAL ENGINEER
OR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE
16. IF ADEQUATE COMPACTIONS IS NOT ACHIEVABLE WITH
CLEAN NATIVE SOILS; IMPORT STRUCTURAL FILL CONSISTING
OF YELL -GRADED GRANULAR MATERIAL WITH A MAXIMUM
PARTICLE SIZE OF 3-INCHES AND NO MORE THAN 5
PERCENT PASSING THE NO. 200.
17. REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES OF PROPOSED ENGINEERED
STRUCTURAL FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR
