Public Works—Loretta Swanson Utilities&Waste Management Commissioners Neatherlin, Shutty,and Trask were in attendance via Zoom. • Loretta shared a"stop gap"to cover hauling and disposal services while negotiating a long- term contract with Mason County Garbage is needed. The contract with Republic Services expires August 26,2023. Two proposals have been brought forward:a standalone agreement with Mason County Garbage to provide that service for one year and addendum no.5 from Republic Services to extend the current contract by six months. Both agreements have the same rates and provisions in terms of Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers(CPI- U)and have the equipment,drivers,and facilities ready to provide the services. Negotiations with Mason County Garbage will be completed within the 180-day timeframe to ensure a firm price. Public Works is going to request that the Public Hearing set for August 29,2023 be extended to November 7,2023. The recommendation is to go with Mason County Garbage and continue negotiations. Mark Neary clarified that Republic Services subcontracts through Mason County Garbage to transport waste to a landfill in Eastern Washington owned by Republic. Mason County Garbage would utilize the landfill in Cowlitz county. Republic plans to utilize Brady Trucking for transport at some point. The price difference between proposals equates to an estimate of$1.78 million a year.
