Approval of Minutes: May 18, 2023, regular meeting minutes. Action 2. Chief Examiner Update 2.1. Position Tracking - 19 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officer-1, Corrections Deputy-7, Deputy Sheriff-7, Evidence Technician-1, and Support Specialist-3 2.2. Approval to hire provisional employee for Support Specialist for four (4) months, per CSR 8.13 - Provisional Employees. Action 2.3. Mason County Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes May 18, 2023 The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairperson Sue Ickes. Attendance: Sue Ickes, Chair Mark Nault, Vice-Chair; and William Kendrick, Commissioner Others: Tami Beyer, and Becky Rogers Business: 1. Approval of Minutes: April 20, 2023, regular meeting minutes and May 8, 2023, special meeting minutes. Cmmrs. Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve the minutes for the April 20, 2023, regular meeting and May 8, 2023, special meeting. Motion carried unanimously. 2. Chief Examiner Update 2.1. Position Tracking - 16 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officer-1, Corrections Deputy-6, Deputy Sheriff-5, Evidence Technician-1, and Support Specialist-3 2.2. The minimum age for Corrections Deputy and Deputy Sheriff positions is 21 years of age, prior to hire. Approval of applicants taking a test through Public Safety Testing prior to reaching the minimum age of 21 years. Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve Corrections Deputy and Deputy Sheriff applicants to take a test through Public Safety Testing prior to reaching the minimum age of 21 years. Motion carried unanimously. 3. Sheriff's Office Division Updates 3.1. Corrections - No applicants on the eligibility list. They are trying to think of creative ways to get the word out and to get more applicants. 3.2. Patrol - Two applicants have been given a conditional offer; four applicants are in the backgrounding process. 3.3. Support Staff - Four applicants are in the backgrounding process for the Support Specialist position. Volunteers - Chief Beyer stated they have a substantial number of volunteers. Most of the volunteers work at the north precinct to keep that business office open. Approximately ten volunteers do project work at the Shelton office. Volunteers are dedicated to scanning permanent files to keep them from degrading. Some volunteers go out in the community to inspect hulk vehicles and process the paperwork for citizens.
