FAIR HOUSING
MASON COUNTY
A RESOLUTION promoting fair housing in Mason County as described in Title VIII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1968 , as amended in 1988 (commonly known as the "Fair Housing Law") .
WHEREAS , in May 1998 Mason County and Public Utility District No . 1 (PUD # 1 ) entered into
an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement wherein they exercised the authority granted by the
Interlocal Cooperation Act pursuant to RCW 39 . 34 . 020 ; and
WHEREAS , the main reason for the Agreement was so PUD # 1 could use grant funds made
available through Community Development Block Grant program to cities and communities for
improvements to municipal facilities for use by the public ; and
WHEREAS , in June 1998 Mason County and the Washington State Department of Community,
Trade and Economic Development have entered into a Community Development Block Grant
whereby the County has secured grant funds to be used for critical improvements to the
Hoodsport and Suncrest community water systems ; and
WHEREAS , the Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination in the rental , sale, or financing of
housing, including home improvements , on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, familial status ,
handicap , and/or national origin; and
WHEREAS , at a minimum, local grantees are required to promote fair housing in the
administration and implementation of their programs and activities by developing, adopting and
publishing a fair housing resolution is no such resolution exists ;
NOW, THEREFORE , LET BE KNOWN TO ALL PERSONS of Mason County that
discrimination in the sale , rental , leasing, financing of housing or land to be used for construction
of housing, or in the provision of brokerage services because of race, color, religion, sex , national
origin, handicapped or familial status is prohibited by the Federal Fair Housing Act . It is the
policy of Mason County to ensure equal opportunity in housing for all persons regardless of race ,
color, religion, sex, national origin, handicapped or familial status . Therefore , Mason County
does hereby pass the following Resolution :
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that within available resources , Mason County will
assist all persons who feel they have been discriminated against because of race, color, religion,
sex, national origin, handicapped or familial status to seek equity under federal and state laws by
filing a complaint with the Washington Human Rights Commission or the U . S . Department of
Housing and Urban Development, Seattle Regional Office Compliance Division .

NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that Mason County is publizing this Resolution and by
doing so shall cause owners of real estate, developers and builders , to become aware of their
respective responsibilities and rights under the Federal Fair Housing Law and any applicable
state or local laws or ordinances .
This Resolution takes effect on the date it is approved and signed by the Mason County Board of
Commissioners .
