A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE ' S
DETERMINATION OF THE NEED FOR A NEW POST OFFICE IN LILLIWAUP ,
WASHINGTON TO SERVE THE SURROUNDING RURAL AREA AND EXPRESSING
MASON COUNTY ' S INTENT TO SUPPORT THE POSTAL SERVICE IN CONSTRUCTING
A NEW POST OFFICE IN LILLIWAUP .
WHEREAS , under the federal Postal Reorganization Act, 39 . U . S . C . & 101 et seq . , the United
States Postal Service has a duty to establish and maintain postal facilities of such character and in
such locations that postal partrons throughout the nation will have ready access to essential
postal services ; .
WHEREAS , under the Postal Reorganization Act, it is an expressed policy of the United States
Postal Service to provide a maximum degree of effective and regular postal services to rural
areas , communities , and small towns ;
WHEREAS , under the Postal Reorganization Act, the United States Postal Service is authorized
to determine the need for post offices and to provide such offices as it determines are needed to
fulfill its Congressionally-mandated duties .
WHEREAS , the United States Postal Service has determined that the existing post office serving
Lilliwaup and the surrounding rural area is unsafe and inadequate to serve the postal service
needs of that area and has determined that the placement of a modular unit is necessary to
adequately serve those needs ,
WHEREAS , the United States Postal Service has consulted with Mason County in an effort to
comply with local planning requirements and building codes to the maximum extent feasible
consistent with postal needs and objectives .
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED , that, in cooperation with the United States
Postal Service in the exercise of its Congressional mandate to provide rural postal services and
post offices as it determines to be necessary, Mason County shall support, approve, and permit
the placement of a modular unit to replace the existing , but unsafe and inadequate , Lilliwaup
Post Office in order to ensure that postal service to Lilliwaup and the surrounding rural area
continues without interruption .
